Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly Phil.

I have seen you Brits using coal in fireplaces only with regard to movies, but I have never seen anyone burn coal in a fireplace in this country. Yeah, we still have many forests, but you'd think someone would burn coal somewhere in the USA, I've just never heard of or seen it.

I remember Cratchit unable to add another chunk because Scrooge was too cheap.

I take that back; when I was about 4, I remember the neighbors getting a delivery of coal for the old fashioned 'gravity' furnace, size of a small car, the ones that have no forced air fan, from about the teens. But they had wood in the fireplace in the living room.

Any of the Septics here ever see coal in a fireplace in this country?

I have an old franklin coal stove from the 1890s I used to use. Very ornate. Both wood and coal. I don't like the smell that accumulates over time though.

Sorry to hear you are under the weather Phil. Working with young people is hazardous, I know. The bastards have sneezed right on me before! Winter is a time when my resistance is low. Stressful. Even though it's really not even begun meteorologically, it's begun psychologically. Take care , and don't feel compelled to visit the thread if you don't feel up to it. Rest and we'll be around.
