Hey G-man, Judge sent me some smoke signals that I deciphered to infer that he wanted me to like your post for him, on account of his busy English ways, natch

Oh, and speaking of likes, surely my movie review post deserves at least 5 or 6 more, no?

You guys have any idea the amount of work that goes on in producing these weekly installments?

The researching, the outlining, the endless rewrites. Not to mention the costs of using test audiences!

Why, I reckon I spent at least 3, no, 4 minutes crafting this latest gem. I dunno 'bout you, but that's a lotta meatball! I coulda been watching tv, or petting my dog, er sumthin'!

I don't care for movies. I appreciate your efforts ... but I skip most discussions of movies entirely. I do like some, but most do nothing for me.

Alright kiddo's, time to gather 'round the electric fire. Another Sunday afternoon is drawing to a close, and we all know what that means!

Movie Review Day With Sober Poncho!

(YAAAY!)

For this installment, I thought we'd take a look at Skyfall!

1)For Your Ears Only---

Finally, a proper psychedelic opening credits sequence! Coupled with a good score? Yup. This is a good start, and that is important!

2)A View to a Thrill---

Art house Bond? This film is gorgeous! Surreal color palette, and very nice compositional symmetry. I figure much credit should go to cinematographer Roger Deakins, who off the top of me head, also does wonderful work for the Coen brothers.

3)Dr.YES!!

Now, don't get me wrong. I loved the baddie from Casino. He cries tears of blood. How cool is that? But Javier Bardem is a classic Bond villain who will stand the test of time. Also, nice to see the legendary Albert Finney. Who looks great with a beard, I might add.

All in all, a treat, and a great way to forget about Quantum. Pretty ladies, exotic locales, oooo-weee! All the good stuff. The plot is surprisingly simple, yet surprisingly effective. Nice thematic elements to boot.

Per rules, as usual, dedications

1)is for Thermy, for being a good torchbearer of all things psychedelic

2)is for Mindfrigg, who appreciates the time and talent involved in making things look good

3)is for England. I thought I left my heart in the Motor City, but perhaps I left it in that ol' London theatre where I saw Tron with me Mum all those years ago?

As we draw to a close, I would like to thank the James Bond universe, for having us, and us, for the James Bond universe. Here's to 50 more!

I spent most of my day attempting to bag a turkey for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. No dice. Outsmarted by a feckin' turkey does not put me in a good mood. :D

I did see and got quite close to a beautiful 4 point buck that was bedded down. Thick antlers, broad chested and a body with some mass to it. I let him be as it isn't deer season. I regret not bringing my camera as the sights were quite spectacular.

I also purchased a Gibson SG Standard. :naughty: I deal I couldn't pass up and even my wife said that I'd be an idiot if I didn't jump on it.

It was a good day.

Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly Phil.

I have seen you Brits using coal in fireplaces only with regard to movies, but I have never seen anyone burn coal in a fireplace in this country. Yeah, we still have many forests, but you'd think someone would burn coal somewhere in the USA, I've just never heard of or seen it.

I remember Cratchit unable to add another chunk because Scrooge was too cheap. :laugh2:

I take that back; when I was about 4, I remember the neighbors getting a delivery of coal for the old fashioned 'gravity' furnace, size of a small car, the ones that have no forced air fan, from about the teens. But they had wood in the fireplace in the living room.

Any of the Septics here ever see coal in a fireplace in this country?:hmm:

I'll be going again next weekend as I am on vacation for the next week or so. I'll be sure to snap some shots of the scenery and the new geetar! :dude:

I would go during the week, but I have things to do around my property, plus I'll be going to see a certain power trio from Canada. :naughty:

Yeah, coal power stations are common here, but I mean coal in a fireplace for residential use. The last I saw was about '63 or'64, and that was in an unimproved original farm house from Victorian times or even older, but it was not being used in the fireplace, only the ancient furnace with scoop shovel to fill it, like they did for a boiler on an old ship.

How about you poncho?

Have you ever seen coal in a fireplace where you are?

Where did you say you were from?

Hoping you feel better soon, Phil. Being sick blows.

Henry, I can honestly say that I have never seen a coal fire used as a home heat source in the States. I am actually surprised to hear that the Limeys still use coal for heat. I thought that ended in the 1800's. :D

No sir, I haven't

I currently have a gas stove/fireplace. It's really cool! It's also the only source of heat I have in the Winter!

Born in Texas, raised/grew up in the Metro Detroit area, currently living in the middle of nowhere, i.e. the wooded outskirts of Bloomington, Indiana in a small cabin style home on roughly 20 acres of land

It's great here, very pretty, but I'm afraid I'm having difficulty adjusting the city part of my brain with the country part of my being. Oh, and I've been here a bit over a year.

Thanks fer askin' Hank! albeit in a rather strange fashion
