Hello,

Looking for some guidance on verification for authenticity on this guitar? It is my dream guitar and it is selling semi locally at a fair price. I would appreciate if members could verify authenticity from just looking at the right things. I am no expert and this is a lot of money for me and I would like not to get scammed. Going through photos a few things that caught my attention: The "0" number on the serial is not perfect, the excess paint or glue under the nut towards the fretboard, the "treble" lettering on the pickup selector switch. It does come with COA and inspection paper but I mean I see people selling those on ebay so yeah. I am really shooting for this and I am no expert. These could very be factory defects within normality, seems
odd for such a high end guitar at least to me. Also, are there any other steps I can take to verify that serial number matches Gibson produced guitar. Thanks again.

Thanks for the input

A good way to tell is that the last four inlays are the same size. This is vintage correct and is a spec that the Gibson custom shop only started doing a few years ago. My bb5 also has the correct inlays.

There are plenty of legit ri customs out there without the vintage correct inlays, so you can't write one off for not having them, but when you see a guitar with them, it's only a good sign.

I have two regular customs and one RI custom. These all hog customs are a different beast. Enjoy it.

Looks good to me too! I’d love to find a decent deal on a 57RI or 68RI, so if it’s within your budget, jump on it!

I would inspect the nut though. Where the nut meets the fretboard, it’s either super splintered, or it looks like some dye could have been transferred on to the nut.

Looks good from here. What do you consider a fair price?

I'm no expert either, but it certainly looks legit to me and is quite beautiful to type the least.

Give Gibson Customer Service a call (800) 4-Gibson, or e-mail them. They've always been very responsive to my queries.

Good luck and :cheers2:

Thanks for the input. I will definitely take a look at that. This is a 2019 model so it is supposed to the be the most recent generation of 57 RI with the most correct historic parts so it should be even like you mentioned. Love that 55, I want one too but I will probably just settle with the epiphone version. If i end up getting it it will be my last guitar for a while while

Yes I am curious about that too. I have not a lot of knowledge about construction, but if you mean dye meaning the fretboard has some kind of dye into it? If so that would be the case. If it is it can probably be removed with some kind of file or sanding of sorts

Yes I will do that too just to verify. I had a response from the seller saying he still has it and in no rush to sale to ifs just me against the clock to come up with the money

Well if bought new on major retailers its like 7500 out the door. this is closer to 5 and he says it has been pretty much in the case since 2019. so it would end up sabving me like 2 large at least. plus not only that but they wont approve me for financing so yeah

But it's not new so you're not really "saving" $2K because it's used. (I almost always buy used because the price drops not because of any real tangible physical factor, but simply because of the change of category.) I'm no expert, but $5K is more than I'd hope to pay -- I'd shoot for $4500. The general guitar shortage may keep prices inflated and availability diminished, so maybe $5 is it, but I'd be pushing for 4 and settling at 4.5. That's one of my favorite guitars -- IMO, preferable in looks to any modern or reissue burst. I, too, like the all-mahogany sound. Good luck.

I still think it is a good deal. There is literally barely any used or new in the market. Most LPC that not even historic are pushing 4500 or higher. Plus I am taking his word but he said he has not used it more than once or twice since he bought it for 6k back in 2019. So gibson are almost 1 grand higher 2 years later. Plus with this one unlike the rest I can see it in person. The market is high right now, true, but it is easier for me to come up with 5 than 2.5 more on top.
