The problem is probably me... but I can’t see how anybody could possibly think that those tiny plastic cars are either a good idea or a sensible solution to anything...

cheers.

In five years the landfills are going to start filling up with them.

It's the only independent form of transport most of the young un's will be able to afford, they rarely buy "normal" cars because of the high cost of petrol or even take a driving test, these things don't require a driving licence here & with the upcoming ICE ban & CAZ's It's either this mode of transport or public transport, The people who have been banned from driving & lost their driving licence love these things as you don't need a licence.

Yeah, I suppose it’s probably an answer to question asked by some of the young’uns... I mean, they’re a really weird mob. I heard on the radio yesterday some study saying that many young’uns are almost completely devoid of person to person communication skills and in fact don’t even really want to interact with other human beings other than via technology. The context of the study was along the lines of what the fcuk are these young people going to do for jobs, and how many are essentially unemployable in many fields...!!!

If you hate other people I suppose a one seater vehicle that goes 28mph max may meet some of your needs, especially if you turn out financially or socially incapable of getting a licence or buying your own car.

Still, it really only remains an EU and UK problem. That seems to be the only place in the world where the lunatics are firmly in control of the asylum.

cheers.

When a combination of your economic situation, local infrastructure, commute distance, and garage space renders your only other options being 2 wheels, it's not a bad option.
A little shelter from the weather, better protection in a crash, and the ability to carry groceries and a passenger.

It's them darned Generation Y voting in people that allow this sort of thing :laugh2: This Citreon Ami EV has won the Top Gear magazine Disruptor award of 2020 to make modern mobility accessible to everyone.....Mostly the young un's.

The 28mph top speed of this EV is 8mph faster than the urban streets speed limit of 20mph it's designed for. The whole thing is virtually plastic & the back is identical to the front, cheap manufacturing, They will sell a SHEDLOAD of these things sold or hired

Somehow Citroen has managed to build a car smaller and slower than the old 2CV, a car literally designed for peasants.

I drive 90, and park in a structure at work.
It's dark when I leave home, and dark when I get back home.
A whole lot of these "structures" are getting Plugzinta spots. Hell, the local Walmart has ten or fifteen just installed over by the separate garden building. My next door neighbor has a Tesla now, with a supercharging station installed in his garage He's so in love with the thing that he's going to be adding one for his girlfriend.

If you've got that much range available, it's not going to matter about the darkness; you'll just plug it in where/when you can and just drive.

Given the number of people who drive with others in the car (aside from those heading for a drive-by), it's really not a bad idea. Mostly what we see on the fwys these days is a single female driver in a 23' raised pickup weighing in at three tons. They're mostly doing 28 mph on those freeways because...traffic, etc. I have an idea that most of those pickups are financed beyond their actual value anyway.

That's the problem... I don't drive anywhere except work and home, with an occasional weekend shopping trip.
Live in a condo, no chargers, and my garage is on community power so no charger there either and no way to wire it from the panel on my unit out to the garage.

My structure at work has 4 charger spaces, so even with a 350 mile range, I'd have to use one of them every 3 days... but by the time it charged, there would be no spaces left in the structure so I'd have to move it to a different structure 3 blocks from my office.... which happens to be a shared structure with the court house and all of the unsavory characters that use it.

I’d love an EARLY Citroen 2CV... the one where it looks like bar tin and the wheel wells will fall off any second...

I’d also love an old HY van... Now THAT is a badass van.... I’d reinforce the frame inside with some aviation type bracing and honeycomb along with judicious use of speckle liner paint inside skin, insulation, panels... and figure out what real suspension and drive train for it...Reinforced solar roof panels...

Be fun to roll up to a gig and step out of that.... typical shit gray outside, actually strong as hell under the outside ugly, and immaculate inside...

There is a certain beauty in ugly as hell....

And you'd be rolling the dice that you're going to have one of the 4 chargers available when you get there. As electric become more popular that is going to be an issue. There has to be some sort of app that can track open chargers and let you know when a spot is coming up , lets you reserve your place in line etc., so you can know when to go out and charge mid-day

This is one of the problems for the urban-use application of small electrics. Where will the intended population of urban apartment dwellers charge up? Most don't have a garage space and enough chargers aren't available in surface lots (outside of suburban shopping centers where this crowd doesn't spend much time) When I was a young city apartment dweller my cars mostly lived curbside. Unless these are going to be used in car-sharing fleets where somebody else owns, collects, charges and disperses them. Which could work, but would likely mostly happen in the overnight hours which takes away solar charging, which would be a benefit otherwise.

As a near-suburb commuter with a garage and excess electric service capacity, I can see an electric working great for my daily short runs and I was considering one, until working from home made my gasoline expense disappear. I will be shopping for one again soon I guess. But I don't understand yet how people living in apartments are going to deal with charging.

you don't need a charger very often for a 1,000 mile range solar powered rolling wing.

fact.

You do if you drive more than 40 miles a day. You get 1000 miles if you have 25 straight days of perfect sunlight charging. Oh yeah, and don't drive during that 25 days.
