I didn’t read the whole thread, but consider getting a Pearly Gates neck. It is exquisite. I love the 59 too, but the PG neck is one of the best Les Paul neck pickups on the planet.

What pups would I have in a 2000 Epi '58 korina V? Would they be considered crap? I've never given the guitar a good workout. Cheers

looks like 22 minutes ago to me. but all im saying is you play what you can afford no need for hate..
Jon1's post was 9 years ago.
And I agree completely... though I took the comment to be sarcasm.

But ultimately, Epiphone pickups have changed a lot in the last 5 or 6 years.
The current Probuckers are quite good, though Jon1's comment still stands regarding the pots and switches.

The Probuckers have nickel silver covers and "vintage output" specs, and sound clear / not muddy, but they spent nearly two decades building a bad reputation that will be hard to shake, and some models still contain the old standard "HOTCH" and "CH57". There's no excuse for brass covers, it's a cost cutting measure that doesn't appreciate the damage that eddy currents impart on the treble response of the pickup, but I think the "hot classic humbucker" bridge is a misunderstood pickup, it's essentially a JB.

My 2007 epi Custom has the above pickups u mentioned. "HOTCH" and "CH57". I have a set of 2020 zibras out of my classic that i was thinking of putting in there until i could find another pair of pro buckers... u think those alnico pro's zibra's would sound half decent? thx man

just not sure how it would look with un covered pups....??

The HOTCH and CH57 are decent if the covers are removed. I think zebra looks good in a black on off white guitar like the one you have there.

well being a RHOADS fan i just had to grab this thing when i saw it, to be honest it doesnt sound too bad the way it is.. i have the wire harness out of my classic push pull all that crap. would be easy to put the zebras in till i found something else. the end result i want to have replacement gold covered pups to maintain the look. I have enough guitars to play i don't really need to rip into this guitar.... not sure what i want to do to it without the replacement pups.

Ya, Zebra works on some, and not on others.
I went with a Zebra JB/59 set on my aged SG and I've just not bonded with it. I'll eventually put covers on them.

i didn't really like the sound of the zibras in the classic ( came stock ) BUT when i had them in the BLK custom they did't sound too bad....

this is how they looked in the BLK custom. Just not sure who they will look in the cream custom....

I have a hand full of double cream sets, ultimately they all ended up in the drawer. I found some good priced double creams, and ultimately I much prefer how they look in guitars where I originally had tried zebra.

I've got the old classic set and I dont like the uncovered look. Do you think these would correct that stock cover problem?

Thanks
