Oh, sorry . . good morning to all.
We've had a week of sensational weather and it looks like we will for the foreseeable future.
the only downside is today on the dog walk we encountered the first deer flies of the season-ERG!

g mornings and afternoons

No posts recently as have had a bastard of a gum infection around a non-emerged wisdom tooth which is making me feel Very Bad. I get them occasionally. Nothing to do but wait for the antibiotics to kill the bugger.

sorry to hear . I had some horrible issues with my wisdom teeth ( not anymore __ as all of my teeth are made of high tech plastics ) . have you considered having the wisdom teeth surgically removed ? . those infections can get very dangerous

do you mean deer tics ? . there's a real problem with those in parts of my region . little bastards burrow into the skin

There are times that I feel worse taking antibiotics than what ever caused the issue . . . especially by day 8, 9 and 10.
Good luck with the gum issue.

Hopefully I should be okay on this stuff (amoxycillin) - it's what I've had on previous occasions with this same problem and I was okay. But I know what you mean - there was one time, years ago... I'm not going into details but it was bad - very bad -I have never seen colours like it :wow::eek:. An official allergy to that particular antibiotic, it turns out.

My dentist says not to unless absolutely unavoidable. They are severely impacted and apparently it would be quite a tricky surgery to remove them (well, the remaining three - one did have to go a couple of decades back - under local anesthetic... They go for years without any probs but when one goes nasty (always the same one, left lower) it is a pig's backside indeed.

he's right . mine were impacted as well __ and the surgery was very involved . not to mention that the shift of teeth afterwards gave me complications for years after . my front teeth remained pretty , but the sides were getting to the point that I couldn't chew properly . which led to digestive problems . keep those back teeth in place if possible . they are the cornerstones

I've had mine removed (all for of them plus another one that had grown horizontally in my lower jaw ) in one operaion under general aesthetic some thirty years ago. One of them was acting up badly and my oral surgeon said that the remaining ones wouldn't be far behind, so...
With my swollen cheeks I looked like an effing hamster for a good while.... :laugh2:

It seems to depend on the individual - so far my dentist has been right - bar the occasional flare-up they are fine and he doesn't want to risk making matters worse by going in with the pliers...

I'm glad to be resurfacing tbh - been a bit out of action for the last few days. Surprising how a local infection like this can make the whole body feel ill as the immune response kicks in to fight it. But I feel more or less okay now :thumb:

We have those up here as well, but deer flies are willy little buggers - we moved up last year to the woods of Michigan and I had to catch one and study it to find out what it was. About the size of a house fly, but look like small bees - black and yellow. They go for the nape of the neck and they're really quiet - can't hear'em, but they're blood suckers. They seem to like the shade and love to attack my dogs as well as my neck when we're out for a walk.
They make glue pads that you put on the back of a hat and it catches them.

Hello Tom

Another supremely tasteful addition to the QB canon.

Thank you for that :thumb:

oh no thank you

I just don't like the idea of not being able to walk in the woods in my locale . I LOVE Nature . but between the bug life ( tics are not fun to remove ) . the illegal hunting . and the militia camps and activities . I'm very careful where I go exploring now . . .

That state of affairs is so completely, totally unacceptable that it makes me sad and angry.

there's always other places for me to go . down near the river . local streams . The Appalachian Trail is nearby . and then there are lakes . but still

I enjoy walking in the uncharted territories of The Woods

was able to do ( start ) the entire body in 30 minutes with a hand held belt sander . still more to do __ but I expected it to be much more difficult to remove that poly finish . from everything I've read

When we moved up here, my wife asked if there were any rifle ranges around, sine her Step-Mom lives near one - NOPE no a one . . . . but everyone up here seems to have a gun and love to target practice - at least I hope that's what it is - and we hear shots most every day - alas.
I still haven't even walked all my own property yet - don't have to go far to walk in the woods, but lots of moles make the ground very uneven, I don't have the most stable legs, so it can be a challenge.

I am allergic to amox.. Took it for several days for some infection and I rashed out severely in mouth, sinuses, and down my throat.... looked like raw tenderized steak after our mom's would take that spiked hammer and beat the living hell out of it on the chopping board....
My mom came by to check on me, looked in my mouth and said to stop taking amox immediately (she was allergic to amox too).....
She went to the store and came back with a sack full of yogurt containers and told me to eat them until they were gone.... Damned if I didn't start getting better pretty quickly... Dunno what it was in yogurt but it cleared up all the rawness that was as red as road rash....

One of the best things for infection is salt... Sinus infection or even when I THINK I might be getting one, , I get my sinus wash thingie out and put two packs of the salt mixture, and flush the sinuses....and repeat every few hours.... Kills it... Sore throat or gum problems, rinse with warm salty water....

When my brother and I were young, he had what we called a 'rising' on his back....some call it a carbuncle, etc.... Big sucker and painful with red radiating out for a couple inches around at least... My Granny went back over to her house, came back with a chunk of salt pork, and taped it over the 'giant zit'.... By that night, it was already going down and was almost gone after a day or two....

My wife is very susceptible to insect bites... I make a thick paste of salt and drop of water, put it on a band aid and stick it on... Dries it out and takes away the irritation quickly....

Funny how docs will load you up with stuff when simple things can sometimes work quicker and better....
