Question for those residing in the Melbourne / Palm Bay area of Florida

How is the music scene down there? Places to play gigs at? Good crowds for original music? Any Opera? Blues? Metal?

My dad lives down there ( I'm way up north in Connecticut ) and he's getting older and his health isn't what it used to be. Has mentioned a few times all the good places to live for the price vs what we pay in CT.

The economy does suck here. It's cool being close to NYC and Boston, but I've been looking to relocate for a while. Mom is headed to S Carolina next year, most of the guys I've grown up with have gone South or West.

Hoping to see my Dad in September for a week and check out the area. My fiance' is an Opera Soprano how has been on stages in NYC, Boston, Hartford, New Haven, etc, so she's a little skeptic to leave, can't say I blame her...

Any insight you can offer is deeply and sincerely appreciated.

In Melbourne, I've played at the Jaycees.
If you can call it a venu.....
There is a decent music scene in south Brevard.
Orlando's better for you. Music Scene wise. tons of clubs.

Yeah the number 1 club in the area (most well known) would be the Social.
If you're lookin' for a band you'll find one pretty quick.
