It wasn't the Post or Times upon whom I was throwing shade. Dr. Nancy Messonnier at the CDC may have a political agenda.

There are 34 cases in the USA and most, IIRC, we imported (i.e. the individual were infected abroad and repatriated by the govt.). There are approximately 327,000,000 Americans. The infection rate is statistically zero. I am not downplaying the potential danger this virus represents. However, the media and certain other people are intentionally over playing the actual state of the situation. That doesn't mean we should not be on guard from a preventative posture and shouldn't prepare for the worst, but everyday Americans have a better chance of getting struck by lightening than they do contracting Covid 19.

Ahhh gotcha, I think there’s a lot of unknowns with this thing but if you’re older or have a pre existing condition, it seems to whack them quickly, parents, grand parents, folks like that are most susceptible.

Im nervous about this thing a little to be honest, some won’t take any precautions and they’ll be the ones that spread this damn thing, common sense isn’t prominent anymore

Dr Messonier and the CDC may have a self-interested agenda- but it's also the case that the market drop she caused made a LOT of money for people who might just have shorted some things.......

Fact: every single one of the 84 reported cases in the US to date was contracted overseas; there is no evidence, yet, of any domestic contagion.

I'm surprised the market didn't correct a few weeks ago. I don't think CDC lady was the cause. So far, everyone is thinking of covid 19 as only effecting supply. I think that was why the market wasn't more spooked sooner. If it ever got to the point of impacting demand...well, that'll be something altogether different.

Yes the words conspiracy and conspiracists are most often used as an attempt at delegitimization. Its often used like the words racist, homophobic, sexist and other such epithets to make someone look and feel a fool! Bullying to get others to get in line and not question what you are being told.

Hamtone, having done some research, brought up some interesting observations. In MHO calling him out as a conspiracist is a little uncalled for. It has been well proven the media is a bad source of information and, if I got it correct, all he was doing was bringing forth an alternative based on some research.

Yep I'm a conspiracist and think everything should be questioned. Is it a conspiracy to think J.E. killed him self or is it fact? I believe the evidence points clearly to the truth but what do they want you to believe.

Looking at something from a different angle is good. Questioning those in charge is good. Taking what you've been told from sources which have proven to be liars as not trust worthy seems quite prudent.

s

I could not agree more.

Think for yourself and question everything. And when I say that, I don't mean watch a program or read an article and then draw conclusions based on what they told you. Were all the facts given? What was left out? Were they telling the truth? We really only know what they tell us.

And what is a "reputable source?" Are there really any "reputable sources?" What some consider Reputable Sources others consider to be completely biased bullshit. Damn near every news source out there has bias and most are owned by giant corporations. they don't exist to inform you, they exist to make money off you.

They probably already have the vaccine for Corona Virus. They are just waiting for enough panic to set in and sell it to us for a premium. Someone will get rich from this, I guarantee it.

Just my two cents.

it's going to take a year to a year and a half to have a vaccine ready for public use.

I have 3 years of Dehydrated food supplies, multiple 55 gallon drums of potable water, as well as a large supply of canned goods and non perishable food, and otheritems. But then, I've had this going for awhile.

And it would be very unwise for anyone to attempt to take any of it by force.

where you at?

@rifflearner, thanks for the thread.

It gave me a chance to talk to my wife about these things. I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to have 30 worth of supplies. You can weather a job loss, or whatever. Maybe as simple as a being sick and not wanting to go outside.

My wife has wanted a freezer since we left one behind at our last house. I thought it was silly for just two of us.

Today I bought a chest freezer for $170, label estimates $30/year to run it.

That got her in the mood to put up with a prepper shopping trip.

We hit up WalMart with simple rules. Buy only food that we would actually have bought anyway over the next year, and buy no more than we will actually use before the expiration date.

We came out with a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. While it wouldn’t be nutritionally balanced, we could easily live on this stuff for a month or more.

I threw in a bucket of whey protein, to help with balance.

It was a fun mental exercise.

Good stuff man. That sounds like the right approach - no need to panic, but a bit of preparation to take the edge off. Don't forget hand sanitizer and toilet paper. :)

There is a case in Cali.

The U.S. has tested <500 people to date. Perhaps less than <400.

I don’t think there is a need to panic, but I think it’s clear we’re going to see some outbreaks.

If you haven’t done so yet, order a bag of dry rice and beans. Maybe a few cases of water.
