My take on "relic" guitars is this... for the future... typically vintage guitars get some (maybe most) of their pricing for condition. In a way, each scratch and ding takes off of the price... how in the hell in 25+ years is anyone going to be able to judge a relic guitar in the vintage world, as in... what was relic-ed at the factory, and what damage did it acquire during its life? So my take is... over-priced today, worthless if ever in the vintage market... Relic guitars (to me) are of zero worth, even the "they feel comfy" argument doesn't fly with me. To me they are just simply beat up, crap-looking pieces of garbage waiting for the dumpster. I would never buy one at any price. -- Meanwhile, I have a 1980 Les Paul Artisan that I've played the hell out of since it was brand new, and I have honest man's wear and tear all over that 13.6lb beasty. I just don't understand buying a "Liar's Guitar" that is created for way too much money to fool your lawyer and doctor friends into believing YOU actually put that wear on the instrument... NOT. Liar guitars, LOL...

Troll much? Don’t like relic’d guitars? Cool. There is no “argument” about how they look and feel. I personally like them, but I don’t need to argue with someone about why.

Next thing, I don’t give a shit what my guitar is worth 25 Days, 25 months, or 25 years from now. You think people bought the original les Paul’s because they would be a great investment 30 or 40 years down the road? If you are worried about or depending on your guitars worth 25 years down the line, you are doing it wrong.

I don’t have many doctor or lawyer friends. Lol. And the ones I do, I’m not interested in fooling about my guitar collection. I play/gig all my guitars...Aged, unaged, vintage, doesn’t matter. Most all of the relic’d owners would tell you the same thing. Lighten up Francis....they are just guitars. Lol

13.6 lbs of les paul artisan........
Been playing it since 1980, ....don't get the relic thang.....

excuse me if I don't give a fuck.

Those guitars are pieces of shit, that never sold to anyone other than fisherman that needed a boat anchor. The only thing worse than they way they sound is the resale which is shit, no one wants them. That's why you have had it since 1980, your the only one playing one of those dogs.

Not all relic owners are liars, I just told you the truth about your guitar

When I first saw a Geckobutst, I thought it was ugly and I happened to mention it on the Gibson message board and got a reply from who may have come up with the idea which told me i had to see it in person to appreciate it. I still haven't seen one in person but I now think it is quite cool as a short lived finish. I recently saw a friend of mine playing one on a talk show from the 90s and asked her about it. I do think I would like it even more in person and she liked it enough to use it on national TV. I don't think it was hers, but I never asked. Having said that, perhaps this guitar finish would grow on me over time. I can't predict it. I do have a fondness for 'ugly' guitars like the Moderne, but the mystique of that one may have made me want one ever since I saw the forgery in Tom Wheeler's book. I do want an antigua at some point. I'll pass on the Wangcaster though. That one hasn't grown on me decades after first seeing it.

Gecko is unreal under high temp stage lights...
I was standing on a loading dock having a smoke before a big show and a bud came out for pre go time smoke wearing one...
I looked at him and said something like WTF is that...
During the show under all those damn lights, it was gorgeous.....almost like a glowing Goldie...
Do I want one? No.
On stage lit up though, it does look sharp and nothing like it looks in normal ambient light...

Good news is, you can take your time. I would guess that one will see several anniversaries in that store.
