Over the past few years, Gibson has sold their overstock of certain runs by "restamping" or "repurposing" them for quick sale. This included Signature and Collector's Choice models.Somebody explain "restamped."
Do some take some kind of Knopfler markings off it and try to make it look more like an original 'burst or reissue, or something?
Fine looking geetar.
Yes.Cool.
Thanks.
Are they cheaper?
What's up with the line of finish missing between the E tuners?
Maybe it's to imitate what happens when someone tries to soften up the old tuner grease with carburetor cleaner
Man...that gee-tar is a looker!
Images not coming through for me..........
I was surprised that Knopflers would be repurposed.Matte and I spoke about this guitar today and i don't buy into that they are repurposed Knopfler guitars for a number of good reasons. Knopfler guitars were made in 2016 and not to True Historic specs or with True Historic parts. The R8 in the pictures is clearly a 2018 spec guitar with True Historic specs and parts. The True Historic pickguard will not fit a Knopfler. The R8 in the pictures has the narrow frets used for 2018, not the '59 wire used on the Knopfler. Back color is also wrong. I highly doubt that Gibson sat on guitars that were already made for 2 years, much less stripped them, refinished them and then sold them for cheap money. So I thing the story Matte was told by the dealer speculation at best. Looks like a run of 2018 aged R8's with the Knopfler aging pattern. That's been done before. There was a run of R8's a few years back for Japan that were done in the theme of the Gary Rossington LP's.
They did with my "R8" aka Collector's Choice #29.I highly doubt that Gibson sat on guitars that were already made for 2 years, much less stripped them, refinished them and then sold them for cheap money.
I think so tooWhatever the ole girl is,she’s a beauty!
Yes indeed, brother! Some seriously beautiful guitars out there! Boggles the mind(also makes me wanna play the lottery)I think so too
I also spoke to someone about these (they were offered by CME). They just used an aging pattern already on file to make them look more authentic and to crank out 10 or so for CME at a similar spec.
That being said...looks killer! Almost bought that one.
