Robbie, I'm looking also. Not even sure what material it is.

Dennis, still working on a name, but it will not be Gibsun. :D

Why would you wish to inlay a 'well-known name brand', if the guitar is not manufactured by the 'well-known' manufacturer?
Do a member search for 'Sable'....your answer to all your 'nibs' questions will be answered.

This is actually what you want. :naughty:

Headstock Overlay LP 59 Re - eBay (item 260420323828 end time Jun-07-09 04:54:27 PDT)

The first one listed is much larger and the script isn't correct

Thanks ojedad23 and bellows1 for the eBay items. Might be the ticket if I can get the bucks. My headstock already has an ebony overlay so I might have to either remove it or separate the inlay from the eBay overlay. Meanwhile, MOP inlay only suggestions still appreciated!

As for dennistruckdriver, there is no explaining desire. I want a "well known brand name" logo like I want Zooey Deschanel. ;-)

Nibs - Oh yeah... I remember Ex Nihilo showing how these are created by binding the neck after setting the frets. Alas, I have no nibs except on my fountain pen.

Good luck in trying to remove the pearl from the overlay.
It's VERY thin and chances are it will break while trying to remove it.

Looks like the guy selling the overlay has dozens and dozens to sell. As soon as the one listed above sold, another one was added. Bidding on the first one quickly went to $100...I'm hoping those willing to pay a lot are picked off by the first couple of sales.

dennistruckdriver...you remind me of a guy I knew in Jamaica when I played in a rock-steady bank there in the early 70's. When I asked him his name and he said "Tonkus." I said "Tonkus?" with a querulous look on my face and he replied "They call me Tonkus because I yam so Cantonkurous." ;-)

Tonkus, I yam so glod to be in wit ya agun!

I bought a old headstock and will dig out the MOP. The overlay wouldn't really help improve my woodworking skills. My routing is okay, but this will test my mettle.

Tonight I'm going to shellac my homemade 5F2a tweed Princeton and see if I can get it to look like the one I sold during a period of dementia.

I just did a buy it now on one of those 59RE for $59 plus shipping.

I ain't sure yet but I'd really like to do mine the way Historics are done. Hack this one up into a small piece slightly larger than the MOP lettering (like the Holly headstock with inlay on a Historic or Vintage) and then trace that outer shape onto the headstock and use some small chisels to carve out a spot in the headstock ebony and lay it in there and fill any gaps with epoxy and wood dust. Paint it black and apply a gold Les Paul model decal then clear coat it all. It should look just like a gibby headstock if done properly.

BTW_ Anyone know where I can get a "Les Paul model" gold decal? A good one, not some cheesy inkjet waterslide. I don't know that I can get a true silkscreen gold, probably hard to source and may be not be cost effective for a one off silkscreen of that type... but I sure would like one but a good gold decal would work fine under enough clear to hide the edges of the decal.

Go over the reranch.com forums. A forum member, geocha does a great job. I bet he has some already made up of the Les paul script. He has done some customs for me and regularly sells the usual stuff.
