I had a week off work which meant spending more time with family and friends (good) but it also meant having some meals away from home (not good). One visit to KFC was a disaster: chips (fries) everywhere and poultry covered in breaded batter. Nightmare! Didn't have a single chip but I had to peel off the batter before eating the chicken. Not fun. Pizza Express a few days later. Of course, no pizza for me but even the salads are full of starchy/sugary veg and sauces. Bloody awful! Chinese restaurant next. Very nice, authentic food but all covered in carbs. You should have seen the face of the Chinese waiter when I declined eating rice or pancakes!!! Almost every meal was very high in obvious and hidden carbs.

I have found out that eating out and keto are not good that good companions. Also other people perceive it your new attitude to nutrition with being fussy. :(

In short, due to last week's mishaps I have not lost a single gram this week. I'm hoping to be back on track soon.

Don't worry about being too bothersome at restaurants. Take solace in knowing you are still much less irritating than vegans and crossfitters.

Some people were asking for photos..... well, here you have it. The one on the left was me in December; the one of the right was late February. Feeling better than ever!!! Keto has done the trick for weight loss.

Anyway, what do you think?

Wow! You look great, and I know you must feel so much better. Stick with it.

By chance, did you do any before and after bloodwork?

Thanks bro!

With regard to any blood tests.....sadly, I didn't.
I'm planning on having one done soon (around 3 months after started keto). To be fair, I had one done some time back and everything was fine. Mind you, that was before I piled on the weight. It'll be interesting to find out what a 'keto' blood test reveals. As I have said before, I feel great but it's better to be safe than sorry. In any case, I certainly do not feel any worse than I did before keto. These days I'm working full time in a very demanding job , I have a busy family life and I'm finishing my doctoral thesis on top of that and I'm not lacking in energy.

My free day yesterday resulted in a 6 pound upswing in weight lol..... water retention from all of the salt and carbs but thats one reason why most people should throw away their scales.

I don't follow any sort of strict diet, per se, but I do make it a point to allow myself to pig out once a week, and really don't have any negative results from this kind of moderation.

I was in Orlando last week and probably put away many thousand calories at the Boston Lobster Fest. The rest of the week, I behaved myself as normal (probably ate a little more fruit early in the day) and had lost 4 pounds when I got back. And at 5'11" and 185#, Its not like I was out to lose weight in the first place.

Stay strong bro!
I met with a drummer friend who I hadn't seen for ages. His reaction when he saw me was "You look, so.... so.... YOUNG!" I must admit it made me chuckle! LOL

When you are doing low carb, and then load up on carbs you soak up water. It will go away fast. But people unfamiliar freak out. They think they actually " got fat" in a day not realizing that to gain 6 "real" pounds in a day would require 21,000 calories above what you burn. Thats why most people should throw away their scales. Go by clothes fit... the mirror and how they feel.

In another life, pre back injury, I lost 97 pounds and gained a lot of muscle. Went from way over 300 pounds to 227 , 34 inch waist...50" chest.... 18.5 inch biceps cold. I had not seen my uncle in a few months and pulled in his driveway. He looked at me kinda funny and I asked if he knew who I was. He said " well you kinda look like Stephen " I said yeah its me. He said " damn son, what did you do?" This was an uncle I saw all the time my whole life.

Losing weight is a great accomplishment and takes a lot of discipline. When I began my quest 6 years ago I lost about 45lbs in about two months using diet and a tone of cardio. I felt good, but felt like a skinny fat guy if that makes sense. I was too skinny yet I still had flab hanging over my belt, and two years later it was still there despite eating decently and exercising daily. At that point I shifted gears and began a weight lifting program in combination with cardio. Since then I gave gained 15 pounds while maintaining my waist size. Unfortunately that stubborn belly fat was still there. My six year old resolution to get a flat stomach was proving to be unattainable and I was really getting discouraged. So I've changed gears once again, one last ditch effort. For three months (I'm almost half way through) I'm working out 7 days a week (increased cardio and weights) and am eating completely clean (minimal carbs, increased protein, and absolutely no sugar or alcohol). Results are starting to show but we'll see if I can accomplish my goal. Even If I don't, I know I've done my best and I know that I look in much better shape than 99% of the 56 year olds out there.

Yep, feels good doesn't it? It also becomes embarrassing sometimes. I went to a high school reunion with a couple of old friends who have kind of let themselves go last summer. All day we had people coming up to us and they all were say "Andrew, you look amazing". The first time its flattering, but after a while I just was feeling embarrassed for my friends.

But get used to it, everybody I see that doesn't see me regularly comments about how "good" or how "young" I look.

100% correct. An old adage is if you have a fat pear shaped body and all you do is diet and cardio you will have a smaller pear shaped body. Unfortunately I am scared to lift due to old injuries. If you wanna see the belly shrink fast try the no carb. I know you said you do minimal carbs but give no carb under 20 a day) a try for 2 weeks. You will see results.

I was friends with a father and son who tried their best to constantly embaress me. I was lifting and doing judo etc. So the dad would incessantly poke fun at me ttying to build himself. The son was just a complete dick. Decided he wanted to prove the judo was BS in front of our wives. He pushed me one handed. I hooked him with a perfect ippon seonagi. He landed square on his back. So he decided he would come to grappling class and teach me a lesson....he never came back. ......... then at a party one night he decided that between him and jim beam he could whip me.we were setting beside each other on a retaining wall. I back handed him across the chest and when he went back I rolled into full mount and pinned both his hands with my left and had my right drawn back. My wife kept him from getting hurt badly. THEN he decided he needed to start lifting and after 1 week started roids. We were in our office both in shorts. He smarted off that his calves were more cut than mine and asked the secretary to judge. I turned my back and flexed, he did the same... the secretary literally laughed him outta the room. ....... those are not even all of the jealous antics of those 2.
