I find discussions on "Best" interesting in that it means different things to different folks...

"Best" is actually ambiguous. Talent? Quality? Versatility? Popularity? Fame?

My definition of "Best" points directly at Gino and Paul Rodgers. Big deal. Just me.

They are but two of my favorites though.

Some folks look at singers that can't carry a tune in a wash bucket as best.

Some love Young, as I do (singing, not playing). I also think David Crosby is better than Young ever thought about being... Just me...

I think Now & Zen is some of the best stuff Plant ever did, far better than LZ. Far better vocals on that album.

Jon Anderson is incredible in his way of performing. Best? Not to me...but for somebody...

Some singers just grab you like the kung fu grip.... Boz Scaggs... Aretha... Etta...

Boz with Harbor Lights grabs you.... Helps with those guys behind him that became one of the baddest bands around...

When I first heard Hogarth, I was mesmerized at how good he was. Vanelli? No. But damn... Whatever he has, he has a shitload of it... Badass musicians in the band too.

Best.... Hmmm.... By who's standards? :cool2:

For me it's DC Cooper of Royal Hunt. Which most of you probably never heard of.

Geoff Tate, formally of Queensryche, would be my first if he could still pull this off.

Big honorable mention to Dennis DeYoung. At 70, he can still hit the notes.

Honourable mention to David Coverdale.

I know not strictly R’n’R, but

GOAT = Daryl Hall

Who we like has nothing to do with who is the best really............

Lots of GREAT suggestions here, but the two that keep popping in my head with a long enough life span to be somewhat experienced, is Plant and Daltry.

Both trail blazed their own paths with power and attack and could also do killer ballads and anything in between. I can't imagine anyone else doing "Won't Get Fooled Again" or "Rock and Roll". Yeah, some can hit the notes, but it's really all about the texture of those voices that put them over the top.

Also nobody mentioned McCartney. He's got the absolute best gut wrenching screams that very few can even get close to. Underutilized IMO.
