I was in scouts as a kid and loved the outdoors, but these days I'm a white collar worker. I still get out for short hikes, kayaking etc, but not nearly as much as I would like.

Anyway, taking my 7 year old (well, NEARLY 7) on his first camping trip this weekend I hope, so I figured I'd make him a paracord bracelet thing. It's pretty short, won't be long enough to be incredibly useful for him, and at 7 I hope he never needs to use it for anything  but I figure it'll be a fun learning tool all the same to build a little awareness. Just a lanyard knot type thing to keep it on his wrist. If it falls of I'm out about 2 feet of paracord, no big loss. He's at him mum's so I'm not totally sure if it's long enough, I guess I'll find out. I suspect I may need to move the lanyard knot further down.

Hopefully it'll keep his mind off Minecraft for a little while!

I know some folks do some great work with paracord. Any of you guys make your own stuff? It was actually a good bit of fun.

yeah I've made a bunch of Mad Max replica bracelets for friends. I like making movie replicas.

I don't have a pic of mine since I gave them away but they look exactly like this...

pretty easy to make. I could probably find the tutorial again if you're interested. It takes around 8'-10' feet of paracord.

I made the first one for myself but people keep helping themselves to them. :laugh2: The last one I made for my sister and my dad took it.

Still have a bunch of cord to make more but I haven't gotten back around to it yet.

you can get cord pretty cheap on ebay. Just make sure it's 5 strand and mil spec,..not the cheap look alike stuff. You can get it in all kinds of colors now too.

The Mad Max look is more of a dark tan. (because of the screen filter/treatment)...I suspect in real life it's more olive drab. But it's hard to tell since the entire movie is filtered.

Yeah the stuff I got is the 550 rated 7 core stuff, name brand. Made in USA even. I'm making one of those for sure. :thumb:

Nah I don't wear jewellery of any kind! Well except for a gold wedding ring and taking that off could be pretty risky....Redheads...you know~

The guy in the pic with me is into making all kinds of neat stuff like that.
Carves his own wooden bowls and utensils, makes survival mirrors out of my old hard drive disks, fire-starters with flint and some with a 9 volt and steel wool, and makes all kinds of para-cord stuff like survival bracelets.

Keeps him busy during retirement, LOL!!!

Just right for a survival Bola! Three stones, and a practice throw or two and its Blue Grouse on the grill after happy hour..
Happy as hell you got him that is !

Wow, he looks a LOT like Roger Swain, author and former host of The Victory Garden.

Paracord-monkey-fist.jpg

...not interested in making it that long though. That's a bit kooky.

That monkey fist looks like fun, I need to make one of those. Or maybe 3, attach them at the keychain to make a bolo.
