Help me identify this Orville by Gibson. Are the pickups original? I thought it hey would be Gibson but I there was no PAT PENDING or number.
I understood the stickered 57 Classics only came on the re-issues which that one isn't, the other pups they used were the Bill Lawrence on the earlier ObG's and Gibson 490's on later ones which have the pat pending on the pups. Does it look like the pups have been changed by the solder on the pots in the cavity?
I just bought an Orville LPC John Sykes, looks all original in very nice clean condition. 1997 yom, Long tenon, ebony fretboard, no fret end binding, polyurethane finish?
Should arrive in about a week. Ill likely replace the chrome bits with historic type black plastic parts.
I don't know, would this be all mahogany, or maple cap ? Supposed to weigh 4.1kg
Right on, thanks !Yes, maple cap
i have everything shipped by sea now been doing it for a year and its saved me ££££s also I seem to get more slipping through customs than before and less damages, plus i forget what I have bought so every parcel is a nice surprise. !!!
Good call on replacing the chrome plastics they are an aquired taste, .
Pups might be a bit ropey
Well its solid black...but I do see 2 seams, so 3 piece top.Have a look at what top is on it? Maple of mahogany?
I have owned WCR's & Bareknuckles (in historics) & these stock? pickups sound pretty good. That is a diplomatic way of putting it....
What do you mean exactly by "ropey"?
No, that's not a legitimate Orville.
Orville never used a 3 screw TRC and the headstock script is not placed correctly.

Wrong serial number format and no headstock wings.
![]()
Not a tenon joint Orville used
