30%. that's exorbitant. However, if it ends up being a net sum of USD300++; it's still bearable (as long as your purchase is a couple of grand).

In the US, when the paperwork are done correctly (by the sellers); tax is no applicable for US made guitars.

Is there a big fan base for american made guitars in the China? I don't recall seeing any instrument stores when i was in China, then again... i've only been to Shenzhen, Taiyuan and Beijing.

I bet Rudi is hiding a Burst somewhere in the outback.

Thanks for the info.

As I’m in Beijing, I know there is an old bell tower, which is a symbol of old Beijing, and it becomes a concentration of music stores.

China still has a long way to go regarding the knowledge of fine instrument, but as we got so so many people, the market has potential I assume.

Congratulations on that wonderful guitar L96A1 !
I spoke to Rudi many years ago about the quantum
shift in the guitar market when the Far East became
aware of the important part that western instruments
played in world culture. Although I was a few years
off in my timing, I believe we are seeing this starting
to happen now. The next few years should be
outstanding for someone with Rudi's insight.

The explosion of the information age has changed the rules of many industries including the musical instruments industry. Somebody mentioned in another thread; we are in the golden age of guitar making. Hence, imho, with the freely available information (internet), anybody with the correct tools/skills/materials can make a decent guitar.

As PRS puts it: ""...cause the difference between a $2000 and a $100 guitar was you do all the same stuff, this guitar got everything on it that an inexpensive guitar got on... it's just that you pay more attention to each parts...""

It will be interesting to see whether the Chinese guitar buyers will go into the "lifestyle" or the "practicality" route when they start to embrace western instruments.

ps. iirc; not so long ago (70s-90s), "the Far East" was always referred to Japan. Interesting how things has changed. :)

Thanks for the info.

As I’m in Beijing, I know there is an old bell tower, which is a symbol of old Beijing, and it becomes a concentration of music stores.

China still has a long way to go regarding the knowledge of fine instrument, but as we got so so many people, the market has potential I assume.

Gulou Dongdajie. Houhai Lake between the drum and bell towers.

Quite a few guitar stores in the street together with Mao Live House. Rock Mei Mei is a good guitar store with their drum store next door. Orange, Marshall, Vox, Blackstar, Fender are all stocked but don't move much.

Prohibitive import duties place high prices on overseas guitars. Makes them out of reach for the average kids. Guitar rock is still underground, there are indie labels that have been going for 20yrs but the scene hasn't progressed much. Festivals are held annually with good crowds but any international bands attending are low grade unknown due to cost of paying well known major acts. Having to charge higher ticket prices would kill attendances.

Two things against rock music is the Chinese culture is peaceful and non aggressive and so acoustic instruments are more popular. And the massive popularity of boy and girl bands and individual singers across China, Taiwan, HK, Korea. The small underground clubs like Yugong Yishan have heavy metal and hard rock but to audiences of a couple of hundred people. Local acts are not that good and the well known established bands all work day jobs.

CD stores what few there were in Beijing have all gone, downloading is the go now. If you want to buy Western Guitar mags or CDs you have to fly over to Hong Kong.

Gibson set up a big store in Shanghai a few years back but it's the only one. Sales would not be spectacular, more a curiosity for locals. There will be no great embrace of western music or electric guitars as the people including the majority of kids are raised on MOR Asia Pop. Rock guitar does not play a lead role in that music. And in general they prefer their own brand of pop music / artists to the western counterparts.

Super Junior......... https://youtu.be/r6TwzSGYycM............... 107 million views says it all.

:hmm:...............OK Anthony / Tony, where do I send the money. :laugh2: :naughty:

Seriously though, I do appreciate the comments & thank you for them. My reputation means a lot to me. :)

When someone sends you a large sum of money & trusts you, you have a load of responsibility on your shoulders...........to deliver.

A Guitar needs to arrive in perfect order, meet or preferably exceed expectations & hopefully the buyer you deal with with, become lifelong friends.

Cheers, Rudi
