I don't know how others feel about this, but I'm starting to wonder if Epiphone's decision last year to MD all of their guitars that had the P-90 soapbar short of the Casino was a really dumb move on their part.

Couldn't help but notice that since its reintroduction, the '56 Goldtop is already on back order. :laugh2:

Maybe they'll wake up and bring this one back as well...

(Or for that matter put out a standard model in black with the P-90's which they ALMOST did. The ad got pulled off MF almost immediately. Hmm....makes me wonder why.)

I wouldn't mind seeing a HC burst with the P-90's either....it'd be nice to see some guitars available that have that Diceman mojo attached to 'em. :D

I think that the dumbest thing they've done in recent history was to pull out of Japan...

But I agree that pulling back P90 models is right up there as well.

I have a suspicion those Japanese guitars were cutting into Gibson's sales figures in terms of units sold vs. folks choosing the Elitists instead. :naughty:

You must have read my old posts, OJ - as I've been saying that for at least a year now...

The MIJ's threatened Gibson's USA stuff in terms of quality. They never did much advertising for the Elitists. They just wanted their cut of the MIJ market until they became popular and hurt USA sales (at least in some small way).

They put grey plastic or metal inlays in my fretboard. (old '95 Epi. LP) That's the dumbest thing they did to me. I'll have to borrow it back from the kid I gave it to and take some pics.

Believe it or not, the first time I heard that theory was on...the Epiphone boards attached to their website.

I was there when all of that was going down. People were seriously, seriously pissed about that. (I was also there when they announced they were MD'ing the '56 Goldtop along with the Zephyr, the ES-295, the Custom Plus, and a few other guitars..)

...it makes me wonder just how hot of an item those Delonge guitars are. :laugh2:

IMHO The dumbest thing epiphone ever did was to sell out to Gibson. They used to make some Beautiful Hollowbody Jazz guitars of the finest quality here in the USA. ;)

signature guitars (any of them) - its quite obvious nearly all the guitarists arent using an exact version of their signature series so why bother?

You know, now that you mention it, I was wondering the same thing about the inlays in my recently acquired '96 Epi LP... The more I have looked at the inlays on my fretboard, the more they look like gray plastic or some cheap kind of gray metal!...

Well thank goodness it's not just me...I was beginning to feel like a crazy man...or I got a fake. I got it from MF though, so not much chance of that. Anyone have anything to say about why/if Epi used plastic inlays in the mid 90's?

Yeah, I guess I didn't really notice the plastic (or cheap metal) inlays at first when I bought the guitar, but I definitely noticed them shortly after I got it home and looked closer at it..

I see that the new Epi Les Paul Standards now have pretty nice inlays (not gray plastic or metal...).
