Ahem...

Anyway, IMO now is the best time to buy used Historics. Prices may be all over the place, but if you do your research you can scoop one up for a great price.

With the TH prices being so high, and the market flooded with pre 2015 Historics... Bide your time and deal will come along.

Yeah good time to buy. Value of historics around 1600-2200, wouldn't pay more than that. "Runs" and "CC's" are for your higher end player or collector, stick to reissues if you're playing. Upgrade pots and caps is the only recommended upgrade. I paid 1870 or so for my historic brand new from the gibson custom shop, that was early 2006. Remember, online stores and real stores use marketing hype, aesthetics and false scarcity to sell at higher prices.

Good luck finding many Historics (R8-R0's) for under $2000 these days. $1600 would be a absolute steal IMO. Haven't seen one that low in a while. Most seem to be in the $2400-$4000 range.

Are you talking about Jr. reissues? I guess it's worst that I thought.

Summer time is the normal LOW point for selling guitars . Plus being a buyers market ,Thanks in part to Gibson Flooding the market with So many R8's ,that some say have necks similar to R9's .

Try and get a good price for that "New" 4 month old R9 or R8 now ...... Flippers .....:wow:

Once the next price increase hits and all the '14's are sold ,,wait and see . Hello 2017 ???

Agree every guitar is different . A more desired top will still command a better price . Some will be perceived as more valuable , but oinly to a select set of possible buyers ....

BTW , What is it that special about 2007 LP's ? After It's yours ????

IMO , 2005 and the Run of Standard Faded were IT . And they have gone up in value , albeit slightly(right now) . BUT any motivated seller looking to move a certain piece quickly will settle for less . 'Cause GAS for those TH's is overwhelming to some .:hmm:

If you wouldn't pay more than that, you must be limiting yourself to guitars with major issues/repairs - I have not been seeing Historics selling for so little (we are talking US dollars, right?).

That was a decade ago!! $1,870 in 2006 dollars = $2,205.83 in 2015 dollars. What model are we talking about here?

IMO, the two markets are separate, and haven't collided yet. Your new TH buyers are a completely different market than your used Historic buyer, in other words.

If I have 3-4k to spend on a guitar, 7k isn't even on my radar, so, the new pricing doesn't have any bearing on the used market at this point. Not only that, but with such a great number of Historics produced these last 5-8 years, the market is still plentiful....supply and demand. Too much supply.

Next year, when the prices go up AGAIN (and they will), and some of the 15's start popping up on Ebay with people trying to get their money back out of them, MAYBE there will be a slight increase (slight) in the earlier one's.

The other issue working against the used market is the limited number of 15's being produced. Far fewer will be popping up used, and when they do, my guess is the seller is going to take a severe hit on resale. I think prices on used will still be dictated by the buyer, unlike new, where Gibson will find their 400 or so customers a year here stateside.

Can't get more real than completed auctions. A lot WANT $3200-$3500, but, they ain't gettin' it.

I couldn't get the whole link to post, but these guitars (except the last one, still under 3k) were "best offer accepted", so they didn't even get the price you actually see it "sold" for.

I just searched Ebay sold listings of used guitars for "Gibson Custom, Les Paul, 1959" - the cheapest was $3,399 for a 2007. When I searched for "R9" instead of "1959", the cheapest was a 2012 that sold for $3550.

When I searched for "1958" instead of 1959, I found a 2006 for $2225, but something seemed fishy about the listing (the same guitar popped up in 2 more separate listings for $2366 and $2409). The next cheapest was a 2012 for $2350 and then a 2013 for $2576, then another took a best offer from a base price of $2999 and two more (a 2003, I think, and a 2012) sold for around $3500. When I searched for "R8" instead of "1958", I found a 2009 sold for $2,426

Stop buying up guitars and wait about 2 yrs and the used prices will drop. Maybe not drastically but they'll drop. Not saying go buy used. Just wait for it. If everyone stopped buying the prices would have to go south.

There are not that many R9s in the classified right now. And those with unique tops usually get sold pretty quick even with an above average price.

Therefore, imho, those who wanna get a R9 are willing to shell out more for a "nicer" top. While, those who wants a R7 or R8 are willing to sit out for a better price.

Or maybe some people are buying up guitars because they see today's used prices as a good value?

I bought a 2013 R9 and a 2014 R8 NEW within a month of each other and just a couple months ago. I felt the NEW "close out" prices were are terrific value. Used 13-14 guitars just weren't available.

I know of a dealer that sold 6 2014 historics to one guy at once! And there was a Pelham blue R7 and a solid red R4.

Oh yeah, I remember your Avatar! You always seem to be saying you purchase RIs for 1600-well under 2K. Sorry we don't all know crack addicts or thieves and so you have a select market many of us simply can't access.

Recently traded in a couple Historics, got $2500 for the 2007 R4 and $3000 for the 2012 R8 which falls right in to the prices you listed. Yeah I would jump all over a Historic at $1600. And I'm sure there are some out there for that price. I had someone (that knows Historics) offer me $1800 for my R8 saying that was the going price, and then I traded it a week later and got $3000.

Just my (uneducated) opinion here. I think a price hike on new historics can only benefit older ones looking at it long term. People selling their early 2000s are probably making money if they bought those guitars new and not near MAP. The same will happen with the current crop a decade from now as long as people are still interested in these guitars.

I see it all over the local craigslist / kijiji classifieds in Toronto with USA guitars. "A new Firebird V will cost you $2,200. Buy my 2009 for only $1,600." The same will apply to the historic.

Actually, there's a plain top G0 for sale in Toronto right now at only $3,750. Not bad if you compare that to 2015 prices. :laugh2:

But 2012 did suck. For real. Not a single worthwhile instrument. Firewood.
Damn it, why'd you gotta go and say that?! I plugged in my '12 after reading that and it sounded CRAPPY!

Nah. 1958 les paul reissue, gloss.

Seems about right price wise. That's what I'd feel comfortable paying for one.

Well, I guess you must also be quite comfortable not buying one - because nobody is selling them that cheap anymore.
