I don't know what there is to hide, but I'd sure want to know the serial number before I bought it. Some "fakers" use serial numbers that are impossible, given Epis numbering system.

The guy has a brass neck, relisted without a serial number photo - Epiphone Les Paul Standard | eBay

He must be aware that's it's an old serial number because he's changed the condition from New to Used.

I'm in contact with Trading Standards over this guy so hopefully he'll be caught and prosecuted soon. I think he's bought a few of these fakes to sell on, therefore, he should be registered as a business seller and show his contact details.

What did he say to you when you told him the one you bought was a fake? Did he wriggle much or did he just accept your word for it (especially as you had not actually seen the guitar)?

No wriggling at all, just a single message saying that my order was cancelled and that he apologised for any inconvenience caused. He didn't comment at all on my statement that it was a counterfeit instrument.

Good day MLP

I can't find where I can make a new post (yes, I am good at internet ;) ), so I hope this reply will be ok.
I just purchased this Epiphone LP Bonamassa and I'm wondering if it's real. The paint from the top that went unto the "binding" by the fretboard has me kinda worried.
In advance, thank you for replies. Great forum !!

That is very good to hear :) I just started playing again after a very long break.
So I'm not on expert by far at the moment. I bought the guitar 2nd hand, so I don't know what has happened to it. It is one of the first 1000 JB LP's they made and the serial number was valid according to the record (which I know doesn't mean a lot, unless the serial number doesn't exist at all).
Thank you for fixing the pictures for me and the welcome. I'm glad I found this forum, it's awesome.

btw sorry for the bad quality pictures and also, I'm surprised you didn't comment about the stringing ;)

No, they all have that to some degree--this is just a little more than usual. The '56GT's and '56 PRO's have it too.

Agreed; on my '56GT it's barely noticeable but it's more pronounced on my JBGT.

The serial number of this LP Custom, I05060724, appeared on a Chinese fake site in 2008 and on page 59 here on a Black Beauty. Some fake features on this one, and it's being sold by a shop, Barnsley Guitars. I'll post the ebay link for speed now and see if I can get some pics into the thread later. What do you guys think?

I would call it FAKE....

i05060727 - Google Search

Ace guitar - same serial

Epiphone Les Paul Custom +Gibson Hardcase +Goodies for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand

I05060722

Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty - Guitar museum

I05060724

Epiphone Les Paul Custom Sunburst BRAND NEW for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand

I05060726

All different guitars but close serials, epi only stamps by batches so its unlikely that a guitar with 23 will be a BB near a VS
