Not trying to rehash an old topic, but I am curious if anyone up until Page acquired his burst
knows even the partial serial number?

That was to hold a hexaphonic pickup in the early 80s.

Yes, an ARP Avatar pickup. I've been searching for one for my Red Page replica. I believe he mounted the receiving end under his pickguard to the left of the bracket. There are two holes under there which match the mounting bracket.

The other thing about that pic is that it looks like someone took a grinder to the tailpiece and ground part of it flat.

The more I listen to his studio tone, the more I feel there's often a Rangemaster at work there.

Hello everyone,,, I just want to clear up any doubt about if or not Jimmy page owned and played this guitar... I am adding a picture of jimmy holding the guitar without the print being added yet to the Mag, cover.. I will also post a picture of my own ugly self holding this guitar as it was my brother and I who got it to Golden auction to sell it..... so see for yourselves...P.S. this is my first time posting here, so I hope I did it right...

Can you prove it is the same guitar?

high-quality pictures of both instances will have to be procured before any judgment is rendered.

I don't know if Jimmy ever owned the guitar or played it. But I was told by a very reliable Gibson rep that the story behind it is false. They said the guitar (and the other two LPs in the story) was not made specifically for Jimmy and he had no relationship with Gibson at that time.

Whether its the guitar in the picture or not really makes very little difference. Probably just a prop provided by guitar world for the shot, which would not greatly affect the value of the instrument. If you could prove that the guitar was played by Page in concert, that might affect the value, but not hugely in my opinion because this was the Black Crowes era, not Led Zeppelin.

Its a nice guitar and you might find someone to pay a bit of a premium for it, but I wouldn't be counting on a down payment for your next house.

When I look at video caps taken from the Roseland shows, I see a couple of things.

Not that you can see a lot from this low definition footage, but you can see a couple of things.

1) The guitar Page is using at Roseland almost certainly has top-hat knobs, not reflectors like the guitar in question.

2) The Rosaland guitar has a light stripe across the horn (looks like a reflection in these caps, but it is always present in the video).

Here we have a picture of Page later in the tour (after the guitar in question was returned). You will notice that same light stripe across the horn.

Oh, look what other guitar has that light spot on the horn.

So I think its pretty obvious that Pagey had his own guitars at Roseland (why wouldn't he?) and the story of him borrowing an unfamiliar guitar to perform with seems unlikely at best.

Those sure as heck look like grover keys to me in those caps, not klusons like the auction guitar has....

Ya, I'm 100% sure that is #1, which means that the story about the auction guitar being used is just bogus.

So, was it a JP prototype? No, why would they finish it with rimburst, reflectors, and Klusons. Makes no sense.

Was the guitar loaned to Page to use at Roseland because he was guitarless? No, evidence shows he had all his regular guitars for those shows.

Was the guitar held by Page on the Guitar World cover? The guitar looks very similar and may have been used, but I wouldn't be spending a dime more than the guitar's market value without seeing some higher definition pics that show conclusively that this is the same guitar. There has just been so much BS about this guitar's history, why would anyone believe anything about it without conclusive evidence?
