I picked up my Dot about 2 weeks ago. I had most of what I needed to upgrade it the way I wanted already so I finished it up today. In all honesty, it was pretty good stock but what's the fun in leaving it that way!!!

New pots, Jensen caps and wiring
Black reflectors and indicators
New switch with amber tip (the tone is in the amber tip)
Alnico II pickups
Kluson style tuners

I still need to dial in the pickups but it's sounding pretty good. I need to send a trace of the pickguard to Twang so he can cut a short 335 style for it. This is the first Epiphone I've had in a while and I've been impressed with it. The fit and finish were great. All I did out of the box was widen the nut slots a little, polish the frets and oil the board. The frets really didn't need polished but I went ahead and did it while I had the strings off. I've not even touched the setup on it yet.

You gotta have teeny little fingers with four knuckles each, the last of which goes backwards.
That's a purty guitar!!!

It can be a pain in the ass! I tied fishing line to everything before I pulled them out, soldered the pups to the new pots and wired it, attached the line to the new stuff, crammed everything in the f hole and pulled it back through with the fishing line. It's not that hard to do, just takes a little time

Thanks Dennis!!

Rewired my sheri a couple of times.. lots of deep breaths!

looking good jimmy. I just got a dot studio a while back and I have to say, epi seems the king of these semi hollows.. price and quality are just great.

I've got a 335 guard halfway done.. b/w/b.. let me know and I'l give you a deal.. the pod is lots of fun, and the price was very fair!

amber tip MOJO.. good call!

I've got a Epi Dot Studio, loaded it with TV Jones FilterTrons & an RS kit with a tweak---the Tone control is a push/pull: in 'regular' position, it's Vintage wiring with a Luxe Grey Tiger---pull 'up' on the switch and it's Modern wiring with an RS Guitarcap.

Nice looking Dot and a great tweak. That's a sweet setup for a tone control.

Nice job Jimmy and I love the black reflectors. It looks like a real sweet guitar.
Hillbillly, what an awesome set up with the TV Jones. What type of sound are you getting out of those things?
I recently picked up a BB1 and BB2 that I'm planning on swapping out the stock classics in my epi Dot. The stock pups on these are not bad at all but I'm thinking the BB's will get me the tone I'm after for this guitar.

Thanks Griz. Let me know what you think about the BB's when you install them. I've got a set I took out of an R9 just sitting here. I might give them a try in my Dot.

What amp are you using? Great pups and axe can still sound so so through a so so amp.....where a crap guit can sound surprisingly good through a killer amp. I'm not telling you not to upgrade, but I see so many posts in the epi forum of kids sinking hundreds of doallars into new pups for their LP's....while still running through there little 10 watt SS amps....and being disappointed at the results.Putting that cash towards a better amp will usually yield much better results.

Iceman, I'm playing a Peavey Delta Blues 210 which is part of the Classic series and I love this thing. I actually traded an old Twin Reverb that needed more work and $$ than I was willing to spend. It was one trade where I have never looked back. I don't mind the stock epi Dot pups that much but they lack some of the definition that I like. I had a chance to score the BB's from Diceman's R8 so I figured what the heck. I purchased the Dot as a fun mod project because my other guitars are set up exactly how I like them. I'll let you know what kind of tone and sound I get out of the BB's through the DB210. If you haven't checked out the DB210 you should give it a test drive. Heck, this amp even makes the stock Gretschbuckers in my Gretsch 5120 sound amazing. I would not change those for the world.

Just checking as I had no idea what you were using. Glad someone else likes the stock gretschbuckers too! I'm not a big fan of the bridge, but the neck and bridge together have a very unique and satisfying tone, thats why I got a 5129 for more gretschy tone instead of a pup change in the 5120 as I like it alot through my palomino. Its perfect for mellow jazzy stuff and laid back finger style. Plus with a bright boost they get close to classic gretsch vibe.
