I've read every thread on this forum with these amps mentioned in the title, listened to several demos on youtube, and I want to get one of these for my Christmas present. :)

I play a variety of music except metal. Lot's of clean, some blues, some rock, and some jazz.

Which of these two would you recommend for me and why?

THR10 covers a wider variety of tones. THR10C is more blues-oriented.

Thanks for your input!!

I am assuming they both have the same sound quality?

Anyone else have an idea on the differences?

I have both:thumb:

You can't go wrong with either one. The C, like mentioned before, it is modeled with Blues in mind. The regular THR can be cranked:thumb:

I did the same debate for quite some time myself. I finally decided on the THR10C, but I do lean towards the Blues mostly in my playing preferences.

The deciding factor for me was the inclusion of the Deluxe model on the 10C, as I know exactly what a Deluxe sounds like, and what I would need to do with it to get a baseline sound. That said, all of the models sound good on either the 10 or the 10C. I've really become fond of the Class A and US Blues models of the 10C. The Brit Blues is a pretty good fake Marshall sound as well. The effects are good, although they can sometimes be a little strong for my taste.

I bought this to have something to take with me in our RV (limited space) and it gave me something to play through while on an extended vacation. I have not yet had the chance to hook it up to my computer and take advantage of the interface or tweaking any of the settings (creating pre-sets).

I am very pleased with the THR10C, it more than lives up to its reputation and fits the purpose I bought it for exactly. I hope this helps you decide, but the best way is to try them both and see what floats your boat.

Again thanks for all of your input.

I am currently re-reading the THR10 review thread, but have gathered some info from Yamaha's website and from Tenacious T's post in the thread above:

I got these descriptions from Yamaha's website:

THR10
CLEAN - Rich clean tones from a 6L6 power section with early breakup for incredible jazz, blues and country sounds.
CRUNCH - Low-powered EL84 class-A tube output with bright, clear, dynamic power amp distortion characteristics.
LEAD - Low-gain preamp section and EL34 power section for rich, controllable distortion with great midrange definition.
BRIT HI - EL34s keep the classic British clarity while a higher gain preamp allows you to push the amp into serious distortion.
MODERN - Ultra high-gain input section combined with 6L6 output section delivers smooth, powerful distortion
BASS - High-power all-tube design for dynamic, driving bass tone.
ACO - Electric-acoustic optimized input with mic simulations for natural, clear tone.
FLAT - Flat response clean input for line sources, tone and effect controls allow shaping of non-guitar sources.

THR10C
DELUXE
CLASS A
US BLUES
BRIT BLUES
MINI
BASS
ACO*
FLAT (*Mic simulation)

This is from Tenacious T in the Yamaha THR-10 review thread.

Also, after watching the videos, these were the amp models I was able to take away from their commentary...

THR10: Low Gain Combo to High Gain Stack
• Modern = Mesa Boogie
• Brit Hi = Marshall JCM 800
• Lead = Marshall Plexi
• Crunch = VOX AC30
• Clean = Twin Reverb

THR10C: Low Gain Boutique Combos
• Mini = Dr.Z - Mini Z
• Brit Blues = Blues Breaker
• US Blues = Fender Blues Jr.
• Class A = DC 30
• Deluxe = Fender Deluxe

I am going to watch the videos posted by Brian's Evil Twin above now. I may have seen them before, but it never hurts to review again. :applause:

I found these demos and I think they are good ones.

The first two are of the THR10, and they show you by description or by visual what they are doing to produce them

These are the THR10C:

Thanks mate, I'm currently getting great tones from my Marshall DSL15 head and vox cab. I've neglected the THR for 3 months, gave it a go again last weekend and still love it :)

I have the THR10 which really is the "all rounder" in the range. It's awesome. You won't be disappointed. Like you I also pondered the THR10C but found the standard one does all I need for a desktop amp. These really are terrific for what they do.

That seems to be the consensus!

I did find this tidbit of information in the long review thread above.

Happy Grumpz said:
I'm sure you all realise that regardless of which version you have purchased you can still download and use the preset Libraries from the other 2 versions.

Can anyone confirm that the preset libraries from other versions can be used on any of them?

EDIT: After reading further in the review thread, it appears that you can not share preset Libraries from versions other than what you buy.

After all the input above, and more research, listening, watching videos etc, I have decided that I will get the THR10C.

I'll be watching for sales etc in the coming weeks and call it either a birthday or Christmas present to myself. :laugh2:

I have a THR10X & absolutely love it.

The best guitar related purchase I've made in years.

Enjoy!

I went through this same dilemma a couple months ago. I went with THR10 and couldn't be happier. All around it just has better clean sounds for my use.

As for using each amps tones by download, it won't work. The units are built different internally. If you could do that it would only make the choice down to color of the case...

I seriously looked at the THR10 model, but after watching the Andertons video and the two videos I linked above, I based my decision on the sound of the THR10C and that choice of amps.

I love the dark fat clean sounds produced by the differing amps on the THR10C.

Who knows I might end up with both of them before it's over. :applause:

THAT is my kind of solution to your dilemma. :thumb:

I run them simultaneously with an A/B/Y pedal...sounds pretty damn cool in a wet/dry configuration.
