I don't like it. It looks like a poorly made replica to me. Doesn't look like a vintage Les Paul at all. Just my opinion.

Gotta agree. As good as he is with wood, his finishes always leave me cold and look nothing like vintage. You can always tell it's one of his finishes, unlike HM.

orange peel? I'm only asking because I've been told that it's one of the FJ telltales. Maybe the final result turned out fine after all but there's no clear shot of it, as far as I can tell.

I spent enough time with Ganzler's guitar to know, that I could never make an exact reproduction either in woodwork or finish!!!

Joe's guitar was quite special! Honestly, there are so many subtle things that make up an original guitar that one would have to live several life times to get them all right! If the guitar looks close and sounds and plays good, that's as good as one can expect. And isn't that what Gibson does?

Hello, to everyone on this forum, with a full respect, I agree with Rich H about his point of view about look, aging and color of this conversion.I'm also a real fanatic and lover of nice LP, bursts and replicas also and of course I'm happy to know that we have FJ to do real nice jobs on LP in way he is doing.I have a question for Rich H, and I think it will be useful for all of us here, Rich, You remember for sure the replica that Phil Harris has on the Northwest show in England before a few months, it looks very accurate and nice to me from the pictures I saw.Do You have some detailed pictures of this guitar, is it possible to know anything more about this lutier or the price for such guitar? Please If You can give me, us, some additional and precise info it will be nice. All the best from Belgrade,Serbia, the town and country with the nicest girls, fun and food in Good Old Europe!

This picture is obviously pre wet sanding and buffing, as well as pre clear coat, since the binding has not been scraped. You always have orange peel on a coat before those steps. It's why you sand and buff.

This finish is kind of awful, and the fret job is ugly. But that's just me.

Hello Scott, would that go for any late fifties Les Paul or was Joe Ganzler's ''Gladys'' extra special?

Terry, Gladys is, indeed, extra special. The first time I saw the guitar, it was love at first sight. There was a glow, depth and vibrancy to the top color/paint that I've never seen on any guitar before or since. I'm sure that other 'bursts have this same look as well, but I rarely ever see other 'bursts (other than my own) outside of typical guitar show venues, where they're only visible under less than ideal lighting conditions.

Hello to you Alex and welcome to the madhouse. Sorry but I don't have any detailed photos or details of that guitar I can share. I wasn't at the show and I have no connection with the owner. There were many forum members at the show and I'm sure if you search you'll find some good pics and info. Best regards from Manchester, Northern England.

Yeah I am, but I'm getting posts deleted by someone. I think I'm not really welcome. Maybe time to do a 'Cartman'.

You too? Someone didn't like my "vintage Monica" post either:(

Yes, I understand but since there is no clear back shot of the finished headstock I was wondering. I've heard that FJ (and some others) like to keep the orange peel because to them it looks right. Just thinking out loud.

I don't think it's awful, it just doesn't look right, IMO. The inlay aging and the round dots next to them is what I can't get past.
Other than that it's a nice looking guitar.
