Which pedals do you know with conviction that you will not be hunting for a better iteration.

OD - HALO

Wah - Cry Tone

Tuner - Turbo Tuner

I have zero interest is another tuner - how much better can they get?

And that's what got me started with this.

I was just thinking I ignore the tuner - I use it all the time and am more than satisfied with it.
I tried a TC Polytune but couldn't see the display in sunlight.
So for me, the TT is the best tuner. Case closed.

I am thinking my noise gate could be better.
And I am sure my chorus and delay are good, just not "case closed."

What pedals do you have that are "case closed."
Please turn me onto something I haven't thought of or planned for.

In terms of tuner i always use those headstock ones - really handy to have in your gig bag - solves the issues of your jam partners not being able to stop playing 'the tuning song'

I do like my big muff pedals and Vox Valvetone Distortion Booster.
My other wish list pedals i'm currently working on are Fender Phaser (the huge retro one), fender blender, boss rt-20 and dd-20. Then i'll be happy :fingersx:

I'm a tinkerer and a sound tweaker so I don't know if case closed applies 100% with me in anything but. . .here goes.

OD - Visual Sound VS-XO.

The VS-XO has Visual Sounds take on a TS808 on one side and an ODR-1 on the other. This is a hugely tweakable drive pedal; I can dial in my sound on any amp and Visual Sound has what is IMO the best buffer on the market.

OD - Boss SD-1

I have tried everything from expensive boutique to $25 dollar pedals and I keep coming back to this pedal as my main rhythm drive pedal. Now, mine is somewhat modified to give me exactly what I want (better clarity, more bass, less mids and slightly more gain) so take this choice with a grain of salt.

Chorus - MIJ Boss CE-2

My only caveat(s) with this pedal is availability as they are no longer produced and that they push the mids. This pedal is stunning with BF Fender style amps but requires some amp tweaking with Marshall voiced amps as it is possible to over push the mids and get a muddy tone. If this pedal were not available I would use the MXR Analog Chorus in a heartbeat.

Flanger - MIJ Boss BF-2

My favourite analog Flanger and the sound in my head (as far as Flangers go).

Delay - Strymon El Capistan

(Spoiler Alert) I am a tape delay fan and this pedal delivers an amazingly lush and highly tweakable tape delay sound. I can dial in sounds that range from pristine Digital-like crisp repeats through to warm and modulated (Wow and flutter) aged tape madness. There is also a built in spring reverb that can be used in conjunction with the delay or on its own. This is probably the only 100% case closed pedal on my board.

Reverb - Strymon BigSky

I admit up front, I am a big fan of reverb. . .it is my only always on effect. I use it for everything from a very subtle hall for a sense of space to full on wet ambiance. If you don't have the budget for this pedal, the Digitech Hardwire RV-7 is IMO the next best versatile reverb. This one is not yet on my board but is paid for and enroute. One of my best friends has this pedal on his board so I have seen just how powerful a musical tool this pedal is and was sold after the first use.

I don't think my EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger pedal is going anywhere. Yes, it takes up too much real estate, no I haven't had much experience with other flangers. All I know is that I can engage it, strum basic chords and it sounds wonderful to my ears.

Reverb - Neunaber Stereo Wet

Insanely amazing pedal, even if I use it for just a subtle reverb this thing adds so much dimension to your playing it's insane. I highly doubt this thing is going anywhere..

OD - Right now my Mad Professor SHOD, it's a great always on drive that has one of the best dynamics of any pedal I have heard on the market. Crazy good.

I'm never sure on my OD/Delays effects if I completely happy or I know I've spoiled myself so Im always on a rollercoaster with the two but my reverb section though... that's not changing :thumb:

until strymon decide to revisit tape echo world (and god help my wallet if they ever do) the El Capistan is going nowhere.

I'd probably also add the Wampler Ace Thirty to this list, as it's the drive sound i've had in my head and been trying to get for a few years now.

Yes. My Klon Centaur.

It seems to be the case also with my Strobostomp tuner which I bought ten years ago.

I'm working towards buying a Telonics volume pedal. After that, it will be case closed for volume pedals.

Here's my list:

Little Big Muff: Gets the sound I am looking for, I haven't tried other muffs, but this does what I need it to do.

Boss DD-20- Way more than I will ever need, really like that it has 4 presets, I am perfectly happy with digital delay.

TS 808 Clone- Run it at 18v and use it as a lead/treble boost. Volume and tone maxed, gain all the way down. Does what I need when I need, no use in replacing it with another.

Boss Super Chorus- Had a VS H2O for a little while, went back to my boss.

Boss Tremolo- Did the capacitor clipping mods, sounds good enough for the limited amount I use it.

Just got an EHX OD Glove- haven't jammed with it yet, the jury is still out on this one.

My MXR analog chorus is the only chorus I'll ever need. To me, a chorus (mostly) is a chorus...you can get most of them to sound pretty similar in my book.

I don't want to limit my OD options, but the Joyo Ultimate Drive is close to the only overdrive I'd ever *need*. However, OD's are freakin sweet so I'll probably end up building another flavor of OD just for the heck of it. Shoot, I may even get another Joyo UD for higher gain since I love how it sounds, hah!

This phaser I just built is probably the only phaser I'll ever need...tons of versatility, sounds freakin cool...

But overall, when it comes to dirt pedals, I'm thinking there really isn't a "case-closed" pedal. There are way too many that sound way too good ;)

Distortion: Wampler Sovereign

Digital but analog-sounding delay: Strymon Brigadier

For anything else on my board, I can never say never. And... why should I?

Metal Distortion: Wampler Triple Wreck
doesn't get much better does it?

OD: My Fredric effects Zombie Klon
to my ears it's the rock tone I've always wanted, don't think I'll ever want another klone, unless this one dies

Phaser: VFE enterprise
one of the most tweakable phasers out there, fantastic piece of kit

Misc: Whammy DT
what else is there taht does this kind of stuff? the thing is fantastic

Everything else is on probation

Almost all of my pedals, really. I don't like to tweak stuff much. I like to check something out, decide if I like it, then get it and live with it. I do wish I'd gone with a vibe in a standard MXR-sized box, rather than the MDV2, but it sounds fantastic, so I'll keep it. I have a Teese Picture wah, Beano Boost, Ge London Fuzz, Voodoo Lab trem (I love trem, and this is my keeper), Script 90, AM Mini Chorus, FD2 (the CompCut is worth keeping the whole thing for) and recently got an Echo Puss. I don't use a ton of delay, mostly slapback, but occssionally play it out a bit.
They're all "cased closed" until mitigating/exhonorating evidence is presented. :)

Generally I would agree with you.

But when was the last time you bought a pedal and two years later the honeymoon continues?

Cases CAN be re-opened. ;)

My point was I don't look for ODs or wahs or tuners anymore.

OD: CBC "The Drive" - case closed. Absolutely nailed exactly what I was looking for.

Still searching for a delay I can't live without. That's all I want. :)

What a question!

If anything, I'd say...

Delay - El Capistan

. . . . . . . . . . that may be it. Every other awesome pedal I have (and I have several) I have thought about selling or trading at some point. Just to try other stuff.

The Stereo Wet should be on that list but every once in a while, I dream of Bigger Skies ;)

See my most recent thread for a glimpse into what I'm talking about.

My needs may very well change two months, let alone two years, from now.
