Alex Lifeson is mine. A few years ago I decided it was time (age 53) to start learning and stop procrastinating. That was after I saw the RUSH Time Machine Tour. So now here I am. It's been a little tough learning on my own. But I'm enjoying myself. :applause:

Joe Perry and Slash were the first guys I remember seeing with Les Pauls. I was originally a Strat player though, and didn't buy my first LP until about two years ago.

Nowadays, there are many on that list. Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Page, Doug Aldrich, Joe Perry, Warren Haynes, etc; etc; etc.

But honestly, the first?

Honestly don't have one, I just love the feel and sound of the LP. As far as asthetics and who has the coolest one in my opinion, I'd have to go with Peter Frampton

I have two that I can think of off the bat, Ace Frehley since I was a HUGE KISS fan in the '70's and Billy Gibbons since I was a HUGE ZZ Top fan in the '80's.

Frampton, Frehley and Page from very very early in life. There are many more but from when I was old enough to know anything, these 3 were the first I can remember that charged me up to play.

For me, despite full knowledge and appreciation of Paige / Perry / Slash etc, the first dabble with a Les Paul was in the early 2000's and largely because of the Stereophonics oddly enough... I guess at that time, the world had gotten a gut full of OTT guitar heroes and I really 'got' how it felt to strap on a Les Paul and just hit those chords!

Spin forward the best part of another decade and I'm back there again, but this time it's purely down to Joe Bonamassa. That guy just lives and breathes what he does and I absolutely love that. Whilst there's far more to Joe than just hitting chords of course, getting another Epi again reminded of what a Les Paul is all about and I'm hook, line and sinker into that!

For me, it's the curvy bottom, and the equally curvy, yet smaller upper part.. The horn.. erm.. well, have to access it somehow. So I'm with Bobbyk1978.

Although some of those guys have made musics that has inspired me to jam along. Wylde and Lifeson in particular. But I've played badly along with various guitars over the years. A single person has not had an such an influence on me yet. I imitate songs, sometimes tones, sometimes tehcniques. Never do I try to imitate a player 100%. I've never gotten inspired to get something because someone else has.

I've done very very little songwriting of my own, ever. I always end up sounding like some song that exists. But there is not a single player in whose style I'd like to do my own stuff, either. Influences, for sure. Inspiration, granted. Imitation.. not so much. I should do more imitation, I might get stuff done.

Bernie Marsden, Brian Robertson, Gary Moore, John Sykes. These guys say just about everything I could want to to hear with Les Pauls.

Jimmy Page, Peter Frampton and Paul Kossoff. If I had come across Frehley before any of those guys, I'd probably be playing a Strat. :D

And I'd be remiss if I didn't give a mention for the man after whom the guitar is named: the great Les Paul himself!!!

Mick Ronson on the Man Who Sold the World and Ziggy Stardust albums. Inspired me to learn guitar back in '73.

Joe Bonamassa...

The first time I heard of him, was watching this special. The sound he's getting from this Les Paul made me frown with curiosity.

Michael Burks... (God rest his soul)

When I heard him on BB's House of Blues, the passion in his playing and chord voicing gave me chills.

I find it very odd that only one person has mentioned Les Paul himself as an influence lol. Not that I'm criticizing, just an observation. Honestly I didn't even know Les Paul was a musician until after I started learning to play. Then again I started learning to play when I was an arrogant high school student who thought he knew it all and didn't care about the world at large.
