Just got a Korean Hamer Vector off Ebay. This thing is awesome…wish it was made of a heavier wood, but overall it is great…no neck dive like some of the Epiphone V's I have had. The "Duncan Designed" pickups are ok, but could use some more balls. I was thinking about putting a Gibson 498T in it for the bridge, since I have 498/490 in both my Les Pauls and my SG and I'd like it to sound a bit more consistent with my other guitars for live shows. I play thrash/hardcore/punk, so i need consistent crunchiness across the board.

Any thoughts for or against, or any other suggestions?

thx y'all.

You could always go with what you have in the other guitars. If not here are some suggestions as we play similar music and I pretty much only play V's.

Moderately priced:

Seymour Duncan JB. About as reasonable as you can get for a growly Moderately high output A5 bucker. Plenty of upper mids and still nice and throaty for the V.

Gibson Dirty Fingers: Slightly higher output, IMO this was Gibson's answer to the Dimarzio Super Distortion. Tad less upper mids than the previously mentioned pickup

Dimarzio Super Distortion: Thicker and less cutting than the previous two.

I also would recommend the brand I use on my guitars. Heavy Air Pickups in England. Outstanding stuff at very reasonable prices for what you get. The A5 Divebomb is an amazing pickup.

Boutiquey range:

Manlius Custom Hot
Bare Knuckles Aftermath A5

I play in CHEECH. I've heard of Tenafly Vipers before..you guys are playing this week i think right?
thx for the advice. Not sure now if I'll do anything at all, but if I do I think i'll try the 498T and if that doesn't work out then I'll go for the Duncan Distortion. Played it at practice today and it sounded rad as hell at full volume so might not need any mods, just a little EQ and compression.

If you like the 498T you would probably like the Duncan Custom as a bridge pickup. The Custom matches up nicely with the Duncan Alnico II Pro in neck model.

Another nice pairing is the Dimarzio Breed NECK in the bridge position and a PAF Pro neck

if hamer kept the specs the same on those vectors from when they introduced them, the duncan designed pickups in there are the korean made version of the duncan distortion. just an FYI...

i had a korean vector when they first came out and it was loaded with DD distortions. i changed mine out for a duncan custom/custom and a 59.
