I've been reading up on the two piece laminated board topic in regards to the 2012 LP's. One huge question seems to be do the frets penetrate into the second layer of the two piece rosewood board. It would seem that a 2012 LP Studio without neck binding could tell the tale by looking at the side where you can see the wood and the frets, unlike a bound neck. Can you 2012 Studio guys post some good close up pics of the side of your guitars neck to help the subject further along? It would be big help in discovering whether a refret would leave the top board in individual pieces or whether that layer is thicker than the frets that go into it. I really hope we get some photos from MLP members. Many Thanks.

probably useless but might be some use to you - to me it looks like they don't penetrate the first layer

took a whole minute to think up that snappy retort?

i was just kidding, but if you want to get your little panties in an uproar over some total non issue that you were just posting about in another thread, who am i to rofl about it? by all means, spend lots of time worrying about this. life is long.

Well it took more like three or four minutes and a couple of rewrites along with some editing. I apologize and have taken steps to remove the panties from the area in question. To be honest the anger I flashed wasn't carried over from another thread and I'm sorry about the dirt rag comment, that's my NY comming out. Road rage on a keyboard. You are right life is long, I'm just tired of people making critical comments about subjects they think are over discussed. My feeling is had enough of a subject? Then don't participate but don't tell other people they shouldn't because you already have. Just my two cents. Still it would seem my button got really big and finding it wasn't very hard.

Oh wait, I was just kidding too, see what I did there?

I was wondering about that too. The fretboard on my Studio has a different look than my Traditional or the Standard I once had.

One huge question seems to be do the frets penetrate into the second layer of the two piece rosewood board.
Why would that matter? The two layers are glued together, forming one inseparable fret board.

The boards are glued together... its not going to fall apart during a refret.LOL.

The main Studio line with glossy lacquer has Granadillo fretboard. But other Studio variants like the Tribute and Studio Deluxe models come with rosewood.

Yes there are variants of the studio, but baked maple wasnt the spec of the regular new 2012 model that came out last year along with the new 2012 spec Standard. The OP's concern here is ones with layered rosewood.

Looks like I never followed up on this thread but, it also looks like a few people on this thread didn't really read what I wrote. The refret issue isn't a personal concern of mine, and I never said it was in the OP. What I did say was "one huge question seems to be" which means that this is a question people that own or are interested in a 2012 have and are asking about the laminated boards used for last year. I didn't say it was my specific concern or even whether it was valid or not, just a question people are asking that was worth a mention. As for the "why" folks are worried about it here, my guess based on posts I've read, is that if the top layer is now individual pieces and not one solid piece, the heat required to do a refret could loosen the top pieces from their position and make a refret troublesome. I have no idea whether this is valid or hogwash truthfully, I just read many people with this concern if they decide to refret at a later date. Clearly based on posts this is a concern that is preventing many people from purchasing a 2012 LP. I personally am not at all concerned about my 12 Deluxe either way as I doubt I'll play it enough to ever need a refret, and I wouldn't expect problems if I did. I was just asking a general question about the subject that seems to be a real concern for potential buyers.
