I don't like it...

Headstock's too big.. body shape gives the impression that the designer died half way through the outline and someone thought "sod it, we'll leave it like this" and the pickup selector is in the weirdest place...

I just talked to Roger Ball at Gibson Customer Service. They confirmed that there are only 500 of each color of the limited pro.

So if you see it - get it now.

I have one of those, albeit a newer BMG version...MIK, the biggest difference seems to be white switches and the pickguard is more rounded , not as pointy on the horns....fit/finish/playability are top notch...plays like quicksilver, large tonal palette available, but I find I have to concentrate more on my playing as it feels so very different (I guess body shape/wt distribution, shorter scale, thinner strings, trem all contribute to the odd feeling)...playing my LP feels like wearing a favorite well worn pear of jeans. But I love them both.
To make a long story short, I'd rock the Genesis in a heartbeat...it looks cool, and not run-of-the-mill

If they had bothered to re-issue accurately, as in that trans-blue custom type vintage model in the promo pic above, or the blue big flake metallic custom, I would already have one....

I still like the new re-issues, not just enough to fork out $500. Maybe, if a 20%-25% coupon or sale day at one of the credible online music retailers became available, and I had the funds available....

Then again, I would likely get the Gretsch Electromatic with that body style, if I had the funds.

I love when Epi puts out original guitars. This would be cool with the bat wing head stock.

When the originals first came out, the reactions were split about like here...but they are incredible players, and the old ones are pretty costly now. You could get very thick, late '60's TONE out of them and they sustained for about 30 minutes.

It was kind of a niche guitar, but those who liked them LOVED them.

That's not a promo pic, it's Fabi's vintage Deluxe with a blue sparkle overlay glued to the top.

The deal with the reissues was that they weren't sure how well they'd sell so they decided to build a limited number of a version that was somewhat of a compromise between the 3 original models.

Considering how well they've sold, I expect (but can't confirm) that there will be another run. Whether they decide to build a Deluxe version - only Jim Rosenberg knows the answer to that, and even he's probably not sure what to do.

BTW, if you're looking for deals on the reissues, they're all over eBay now, albeit mostly 2nds.

Just received my Genesis over the weekend.

Great looking guitar.

Action was super high so I lowered it quite a bit and adjusted the trust rod and changed to some decent 9-42 gauge strings.

One of the screws for the truss rod cover was screwed in at an angle. Also, when i wiped the finger prints off the cover part of the painted "GENSIS" name came off!

Other than that it plays great. I may still take it in for a professional set up.

I will get some pics tomorrow, got home late and I don't have good lighting. I got the black cherry color, the contrast between the red and gold is very nice.

The paint on some of the letters rubbed off with a light polishing cloth. I might just touch it up later, just a bummer on a brand new guitar...

I'm thinking about maybe getting one of these. I like the body design, but the head stock is a little big at the top.
