I have a Radial Twin City ABY pedal that is superb if you have speaker cabs for each of your amps or a two channel amp like the above Duophonic.
David
I do use an A/B or Y pedal with the above DUOPHONIC, a Barber Launch Pad. Mostly I use it in the "Y" function, blending both the Fender-esque and Marshally channels of the Corona/JTM circuits. In my head I can imagine a tone like a famous living Strat player from Austin, TX. With the addition of the Badcat Unleash, I can add post-Eq and chorus/echo. I am a happy camper.

Asheville ordered, but with a twist. I asked Randy if he can build me a heavier version of the Asheville.

His response:

"The Asheville with a Brawler front end would offer the most a tube can offer for metal, meaning the tone will be as heavy as we can get, because once the waves are square, they don't get any more square. Any more would need a little SS help via a pedal in front."

Yeah, I am pretty stoked about this one!

Can you guys tell me the difference between the afd and sibly?

Just off the top of my head, the AFD has an additional preamp tube so more gain. I guess the best way to look at it may be:

SIBLY = Cranked plexi SLP
AFD = Hotrod/modded plexi SLP

Probably a fair amount of overlap between the two with the AFD having more gain on tap and being voiced to achieve a specific iconic tone. :slash:

Having owned both, WRC descriptions are right on.

Selling my DC-8 guys! I just bought Scott_Killarney's DC10, Hoorah!

Hey Jericho -
If you don't mind me asking, what is the sonic goal of the switch to the DC10? I apologize if I missed previous posts on this matter...

Mostly for the ability to switch around power tubes. I love kt66's and el34's. the bigger iron is always nice too.

I'd imagine it'd be for the choice of power tubes. I love that about mine, it's got a bad attitude with an EL34, assertive but polite with a 6L6, i find it a bit wimpy with a 6V6 and I'm yet to try a KT66.

Edit: Told ya so. :thumb:

+1, the AFD is one of those crazy hot rodded Marshalls you heard on a few hard rockin' albums in the 80's and always wished you could own one. :thumbs: :dude: :cool:

After spending far too much time reading through the Phaez pages (and finally stopping kidding myself that I would be happy with a little tweed covered combo to replace my knackered Class 5) I have been in talks with Randy about a new build.

So far I'm set on a 10 watt twin channel Corona Cutter with 2 inputs, tonestack for each channel, a loop and footswitchable boost that will work on both channels. From the info Randy has given me this should be set up with 3 x 12AX7s and an EL34 or 6L6.

I'm hoping that this will give me some great versatility and cover pretty much everything I would ever need. Especially if I add an ABY footswitch. The only problem is I feel most of my dirt/crunch pedals may end up redundant!

If anyone has any suggestions that I may have over looked or recommendations from guys who have had the privelage of first hand experience of Randy's work rather than my youtube soundclips I'd love to hear them.

Hopefully my paycheck will come through soon and I can get a deposit down on this thing and get another Phaez on the way to the UK!!

I know I want one, but it's not to be unless I can sell something. Why is it no one wants to buy my Fender HRDLx? F**king things been on CL forever, can't sell them unless you give them away. :laugh2:

Sounds like you are off to a great start! After building an 8-watt Corona (the first one in existence), I can say that you're going to dig it when it arrives.

Is there any particular reason for ordering one with two channels? Are they going to be tweaked for 'normal' and 'bright' channels?

Ignore me if I'm wrong but I think nick is going for one channel Corona, the other Daisy cutter but with one input and ability to mix channels together.

I guess I just wanted to be greedy!! I wanted to use the cleaner BF tone of the Corona but also wanted the Daisycutter for the higher gain option. I knew I'd end up probably regretting not having one of them and due to the shipping and import duty to the UK I thought I'd try and nail it in one go!

Do you think there is too much cross over in tones to make it worth while going for dual channels then?

Almost, I'm going to have the 2 inputs but use 2 leads and an ABY box to be able to switch between and mix together if the mood takes. I could just go for a single input I guess but I thought I'd just go with Randy on his idea! I'm willing to listen to others and consider their suggestions though.

No, not at all!
I missed seeing 'cutter' in your first post and thought you were going for a 2-channel Corona. Makes good sense now...
