No, I went to public school. My parents let the teachers do their job, and I graduated just fine.
Having a "right" to do something doesn't mean they "should" do it. Schools are funded by everyone, not just parents. So why should parents have more of a say on what's taught in schools than non-parents?
They do not have more of a right, although I have to say they have more of a vested interest. I bet most teachers would love the idea of parents getting involved in their child's education. Im not talking about complaints about the teacher, Im taliking about making sure kids were respectful and following directions of the teaching staff. Making sure that their kids took their education seriously. If the parent doesn't then certainly the child will not.
Not really bad either. How often does the average person use algebra in their life? Get rid of a lot of the fat in primary school, leave it for college for people that will actually use it in their field.
On that I might agree to a point. basic algebra is okay, but seems as if every college student is taking remedial classes anyway. If you don't use it you'll lose it. why waste time with it on students who may never go on to higher learning. maybe give an option for college prep classes.
Alegebra teaches us how to think and reason. It teaches logic and demonstrates to us the elegance of the universe in it's own language.
Speaking strictly as a non-American, of course.
You ever see a kid misbehaving (or even breaking the law) and try to step in? It always goes something like this.
Chalcedon is geared to all who understand that Jesus Christ speaks to the mind as well as to the heart.
We believe that the whole Word of God must be applied to all of life. It is not only our duty as individuals, families and churches to be Christian, but it is also the duty of the state, the school, the arts and sciences, law, economics, and every other sphere to be under Christ the King. Nothing is exempt from His dominion. We must live by His Word, not our own.

you do not tell this woman how to raise her child - YouTube
Until parents are the only ones paying for their childs education (we can only dream of the day) then EVERYONE should have a say in that childs education. If that kid is misbehaving in class, any Joe Q Taxpayer should be allowed to dish out legal punishment.
Are there any countries where that actually works?
I know you're joking with this horse-hockey - aren't you?
Just in case you didn't know, the money the government gives to public schools comes from the taxpayer.

Make sure they can read, write, do some basic math. Any other education they need can be gained from the college for their chosen career path.
See? There's yer problem right there.
