The first two years of college are basically high school 2.0. Maybe they'll add a chapter or two to these repeat classes, but that's it.

No, I went to public school. My parents let the teachers do their job, and I graduated just fine.

Having a "right" to do something doesn't mean they "should" do it. Schools are funded by everyone, not just parents. So why should parents have more of a say on what's taught in schools than non-parents?

They do not have more of a right, although I have to say they have more of a vested interest. I bet most teachers would love the idea of parents getting involved in their child's education. Im not talking about complaints about the teacher, Im taliking about making sure kids were respectful and following directions of the teaching staff. Making sure that their kids took their education seriously. If the parent doesn't then certainly the child will not.

You ever see a kid misbehaving (or even breaking the law) and try to step in? It always goes something like this.

you do not tell this woman how to raise her child - YouTube

Until parents are the only ones paying for their childs education (we can only dream of the day) then EVERYONE should have a say in that childs education. If that kid is misbehaving in class, any Joe Q Taxpayer should be allowed to dish out legal punishment.

Not really bad either. How often does the average person use algebra in their life? Get rid of a lot of the fat in primary school, leave it for college for people that will actually use it in their field.

On that I might agree to a point. basic algebra is okay, but seems as if every college student is taking remedial classes anyway. If you don't use it you'll lose it. why waste time with it on students who may never go on to higher learning. maybe give an option for college prep classes.

Alegebra teaches us how to think and reason. It teaches logic and demonstrates to us the elegance of the universe in it's own language.

Speaking strictly as a non-American, of course.

Humanity got alone fine for thousands of years without it.

Make sure they can read, write, do some basic math. Any other education they need can be gained from the college for their chosen career path.

I know you're joking with this horse-hockey - aren't you?

Chalcedon is geared to all who understand that Jesus Christ speaks to the mind as well as to the heart.

We believe that the whole Word of God must be applied to all of life. It is not only our duty as individuals, families and churches to be Christian, but it is also the duty of the state, the school, the arts and sciences, law, economics, and every other sphere to be under Christ the King. Nothing is exempt from His dominion. We must live by His Word, not our own.

Don't make me link my new favorite rapping preacher youtube vid...

Just in case you didn't know, the money the government gives to public schools comes from the taxpayer.

Yes, I did know that. That's why I said that. Because it's not just parents (and in fact, some parents aren't paying in taxes because of the deductions given for having kids). Which means that every tax payer, with or without children, should have an equal say.

Alot of people here can benifit from the Political Correctness talk at the beggining here. Some here just can handle simple conversation. They harp on 1 word trying to silence others that think differently then they do.

Its amazing how a small internet community like this one Mirrors a real society. That was a good Video though. Very True on many levels. Thanks for posting it Blue......

My family grows our own food. Much better than that chemical soup they sell at the grocery store.

How can a kid know if he wants to study higher math in college if he never experiences it in high school?

What is your career and how often do you use algebra in it?

Can't read or comprehend too well either apparently:

"Alegebra teaches us how to think and reason. It teaches logic and demonstrates to us the elegance of the universe in it's own language."

My career has fvck all to do with it.

It's obviously over your head.
Go back to yer little-bitty ponies.

Why not skip algebra and just teach thinking and reasoning?

Oh dang.

There was that one time when I was taking an upper-division calculus class - I needed it to graduate - and it was only offered for ten weeks, on Tuesday nights - in the fall.

I went to the first class - no problem. But the next session was during the first game of the World Series, so I missed that one. The goddam series went seven games, so I missed the next one, too.

The following session led to the professor calling me out (he might as well have been speaking Mandarin, for all I knew...) and I responded by asking him, and I quote: "Why I gotta know this to pick oranges?"

I got thrown out, and rightfully so.

I re-took the class, passed with an A-, and got on with my career.

I use those principles every day. Not only in my working field, but also I've also found them to be very useful in efforts to do things like making sure the design and materials used in the completion of my house and yard were commensurate with the contracts I entered into. I also do a fair amount of woodworking and micro-electronics as hobbies.

If you can't or don't have to deal with logic at it's base, and/or haven't the imagination or education to understand how such things might come into effecting your existence, then please, at a minimum, don't chuck rocks at the people who do.

Just own up to what you don't understand, and leave it at that.
