I don't know if this is the right place to put this but here goes. My band is going to be doing some AIC covers and I was wondering how I could get close to that tone. I know tone is in the person but I'd like to get the songs in the right ballpark at least. I'll be playing a Les Paul through a Peavey Classic 30.

Nice!!!! I really like the red G & L.

Other than the old G&L "strat" the other 4 are all the same guitar. G&L made 3 superstrats from that era all with the same bodies, bridges and necks. All Kahler 2300s and ebony boards. Only difference betwen the Rampage and the other two are the pickup configurations. The cream one with the dual humbuckers and the spider plays and sounds the best by far but the red one is the prettiest :)

Jerry Cantrell's back up LP Custom. Lots of mods done by his tech. I bought it last year from Denis Benoit, a big promoter guy round here. It's got coil taps and phase inverters. The neck PU is a Duncan Jazz and the bridge is a Duncan Distortion....a really wierd combination but the sound is AMAZING.

I'm getting a Duncan Distortion in the mail soon. So I think that will get close to what I want. I hope anyway.

Cantrell's signature G&L, and the one he used back in the day, used a single Duncan JB, wired to a single volume. I dunno what he uses today (I didn't watch the rig rundown) but back then he used Bogner amps, modified Dunlop Wahs, Tube Screamers. Any axe with a hot bridge humbucker and a nice saturated all-tube gain can get you close.

Edit: I remember I got a dead-on "man in the box" tone from my old Marshall DSL100 w/ my G&L Legacy. It had a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge.

I think he uses MotorCity Pickups now. I think the Duncan Distortion will work for me. I know he used a JB in the early days but I tried one and didn't care much for it.
