I won't defend doping, but as a cyclist I think this whole thing is ridiculous. Even if he used, others also do it. In pro cycling one time or another those guys had doped, the matter is to be caught or not. It's just too late. Now they gonna call other cyclists, most of them retired ans say: "here it is, your now the champion!".
so Ulrich was clean or they will start going after him too and them give the prize for the third place and go on and on?
Come on.

Lance Armstrong will be stripped of seven Tour de France titles, given lifetime ban from Olympics as he drops appeal of doping charges - NY Daily News

Wow! I was pretty sure that something was up but somehow I thought he might get away with it.

Does this change your opinion of him?

No. They still don't have any hard evidence. The he said she said bullshit they have means nothing to me. USADA has no authority in my opinion to strip those titles any way. Besides, he won those titles. Erasing his name from a book doesn't change that.

it is common knowledge that he use to get his blood oxygenated before the races and this can not be detected, the blood is removed saturated with oxygen and then put back in to the body, giving the recipient much more stamina and long term energy, A cheater douse not deserve respect rewards or recognition for winning.

I just hate the automatic "Butthurt" response some members of this forum seem to have. Were we butthurt for pointing out that the Russians sent a woman into space first, or was someone else butthurt that we pointed out the fact that that was one battle of the space race that America didn't win?

It really was a minor sport but made the transition across the pond well. While it has it's roots in Britain, I still think of baseball as being an American sport.

I'd just like to point out that I'm no Teame1. I actually do like the US and there are a few US cities high up on my "cities I'd like to live in" list. I was astounded that I couldn't get a visa for my wife in the UK and as a result do not want to return to the UK. We are staying in Japan temporarily, while preparing for Immigration. There are three countries on our wishlist.

1. Canada.
2. America.
3. Germany.

Currently, Canada is plan A because we have found a fairly easy way to get citizenship. The US is second on the list, however, it is the most difficult country on the list. As a couple, we can apply for the greencard lottery. On my own, I can't as British citizens are ineligible. As a Brit, married to a Japanese woman, I do qualify. I know the lottery is a long shot, but my wife's boss has known three separate individuals who have been selected for a greencard. Consider her our "lucky charm".

Finally, there is Germany which is a wonderful country. I speak a little German, but the wife speaks none even though she lived there from the age of 6 - 9. The point of this story? To show that their is no hatred here.
If ya end up in Canada, prepare to learn Cantonese. Not much English there anymore unless ya wanna be a farmer. :)

On another note, Lance won the races and beat the drug tests. Happens in Nascar every week. That's how the game is played. Play within' THEIR rules....including doping. Ya can't come back 20 years later and say "I know what you did there.....20 years ago, BUSTED". He won the race, passed the drug test, race over, Lance won.
If I could get my Shwinn out of the shed past the lawnmower and find my tire patch kit.........who knows, I coulda been a contender!

if you have to win by cheating its really not worth winning!
this is not the message we need to be giving our children!
its not about winning at any cost, its about competing with honor!

That's not how blood doping works and it's not what he's being accused of doing. He's being accused of using PEDs.

Innocent until proven guilty

The USADA is going to strip him of his titles and medals, etc. Just because he's sick of dealing with it all, and he's been dealing with it for the longest time. It's really sad that just a few people were jealous and are accusing him. Still waiting for his positive test. Too bad this "quasi government agency" has this much power, and has been pressuring him this much. They don't have positive tests, so they should forget it. I haven't heard of any other athlete under this much scrutiny.

So wait, now does that mean everybody who came in second to Lance (and were therefore never tested) are now going to get the medals, trophies, money, fame, and babes?

Does he have to give back what money his sponsors gave him?

Will he now spend his days in Civil Court forever being sued by people who trusted him?

Yes - it sounds like they could be coming after him for millions of dollars.

If everything goes down the way it looks like it's going to, this is pretty huge for American sports. There's obviously a lot more details that will rise to the surface in the coming months, years. If he did cheat, then fvck him. That just puts American athletes under more scrutiny than they already are. Not only has he fvcked himself over, but thousands of other athletes who compete on the world's stage.

As far as I'm concerned, let them use whatever they want to use. When they start dropping like flies and having heart attacks during competitions, maybe then they'll start thinking twice about it.

As far as Armstrong is concerned, the testimonials by former team mates has grown to a level where it must be addressed and he is refusing to do so in a court of law. Other people connected to him have been exposed and banned for doping offenses. For him to have remained clean when everyone around him seems to have been dirty seems unlikely. I think the Bronze medal he won in the Olympics was probably clean and an indication of his true level as a cyclist. But 7 Tour de France wins? Maybe he pushed things too far and should have stopped earlier.

If I was accused of something I know I did not do, I would fight it all the way to my grave if need be. He's choosing not to do that and I find that telling in and of itself.

Just one thing:

The US Anti-doping Agency is the organisation throwing accusations at Lance.

So, er, why all the butthurt about it being Europe being upset with him ...

:)

Come on now, your fancy-pants logic and anti-conspiracy-bent have no place in a discussion like this!

On his blog Armstrong said he felt railroaded and felt like the USADA was going against their own results and he was just tired of fighting a battle he was being set up to lose. Obviously, take what he says with a grain of salt, all of the interviews I've ever seen with the man have made me feel like integrity takes a backseat to winning, but what do I know?

Yeah, but I get that feeling from pretty much ALL organized sports now - from the pro down to the neighborhood kiddy sports.

Win at all costs. America hates a loser.
It's crap.
