Zendrive. Clean boost to crunch. Dynamic/sensitive. Warm to bright. Rock to blues. As transparent as anything I've played. I keep coming back to it, it seems magic with my historic les paul into my lil fender vibrochamp. And I own a lot of ODs.

ProGuitarShop demos has some nice demos using Strat/Tele vs. LP. I've only found 65 amp Soho unuseful for me.
My choice is Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret.
Actually, any pedal that simulates amp should work well for hums and single coils.
Talking 'bout drive pedals, right?
IMO more accurate question would be: "Which pedal is good for rhythm and solo?"
Since many people use pedals just for solos. I found myself a lack of good drive rhythm/solo sound using other's amps and leaving mine JCM at home. DLS should solve my problems.

That's an algorithm. The path to the answer divides at type of amp you like the most. No one knows the result but you.
The most common here would be OCD. Then MI Audio Crunch Box. Then Zvex Box of Rock. Then some boutiqe pedlas.
I mentioned mine combo. But also I'd like to add OCD clone where I changed drive pot from 1M to 220k. Less gain, more drive then dist pedal now.
Above all, I must notice that different amps like different pedals. Only JTM45 likes all drive pedals. I've heard the same for some Fenders.

I´m looking for a dirt pedal for my AC30C2...for a good rhythm rock tone!
Tired yesterday an old OCD and really liked it. I would really like to know how that MI Crunch Box would sound with my AC30...

The best rhythm pedal that I have used (and the humbuckers in my guitars utterly love) is the Stunt Monkey Pedals White Rabbit. It has a Bias knob that lets you shape the ''shag'' of it, and at the same time affects the mid-range. In the middle settings it gets pretty flat, which is absolutely perfect for rhythm work, lots of ''body'' to the sound.

I agree with the above remark that most pedals aim towards a good lead sound. IMHO, drives with a flat EQ (like a Tim / Timmy, Danelectro Transparent OD, perhaps the OCD) or drives that have a 3-band EQ (where you can adjust bass, trable & midrange) should be more fitting for rhythm work.

Now that I think about it, you can use an EQ pedal post dirt, to shape a rhythm tone and disengaging it you can get your lead tone. 99% of the time guitarists use an EQ for the exact opposite result, but I don't see why the above wouldn't work.:hmm:

Kinda trolling here, but I love my EH Metal Muff. I had an original RAT (Bought new in '87) and I compared the Rat vs. the Metal Muff and sold the Rat. Both sounded great but I thought the MM was better. (plus some fool paid me 2x what I paid for the Rat originally)

I also really like the MXR EQ's. I use a 6 band in front of my MM and another 10 band after it (In the loop if I have one.)

I also use a BBE Stinger (now called the Sonic Stomp) Great pedal.

Tough choice as both are fantastic pedals. I have both on my pedalboard and run them into either of the amps in my sig; they sound great with both. I have run them both at 9v and 18v and I prefer 18v for both as there is an increase in apparent headroom and smoothness with a slight reduction in compression.

I would say they are pretty equal at cleaning up with the guitar's volume knob.

IMO the difference between them is the variations in their voice. If you can, get both; both are Marshall voiced but, in overly general terms, the CB is JTM voiced while the OCD is JCM voiced. (The OCD is slighly brighter and more open sounding to my ears) They also stack really well together.

I bought my OCD first as I found it first but I believe you would be happy with either. Whichever you choose, do yourself a favor and find a power supply that allows you to try it at 18 volts; IMO they both sound better at 18v.
