Wow... I would have thought i was alone on Yngwie, Vai, and Satriani. I never could get into the long "technical" shred... YAWN.... I did enjoy Via when the Karate Kid kicked his ass in Crossroads. (yes I know that was Vai playing both solos..)

Yeah those three right there are pretty boring... a lot of their riffs seem uber cheesy to me as well.

Of that level of player I'd much prefer to listen to Petrucci or Eric Johnson.

I'll probably get banned, hunted down, and killed for saying this...

Slash

:D
lol. I'm just a bit more of a rhythm/riff-age fan as opposed to solo's  I've nothing against the guy what-so-ever by the way, i just find some other guitarists more pleasing to listen to/watch than him

Most of the big guys I can take or leave em.
I go for the unsung session guys. Steve Hunter & Dick Wagner mainly, but also Alan Murphy from Kate Bush/Go West fame

so many to list but these are the first two that come to mind

I got as far as post #8 and you hit the nail on the head for me. I suppose these guys are great technicians. But I find them boring as hell. They don't make music IMHO.

-Clapton: solo career if you want to call it that, more like i just want to coast from being in cream

I know they are technically proficient, but their music does not speak to me.

And I don't really understand the Dimebag thing.
