The MXR '78 - one hell of a great drive pedal. But... I am still yet to own one.

Alternatively, you could invest in a better valve amplifier.

That would be ideal. But with starting the new business the Kids out of school and wanting to do things. That is very low on the totem pole. So I figure try the pedal and apeeze her because she already approved daddy for 1 of these.

Well I got a hold of Beerdog here on the forum and he is gonna let me check out one of his pedals. Says it will be a good place to start since the last time I used a pedal for anything was when ProCo first came out with the Ratt, yeah that long. You know the vintage MXR pedals were still shiney and new and you could get a used one for around 15 bucks. Get the picture. Any way thanks all and thanks Sludge for turning me on to The Dog.

My pleasure. Pedal got dropped off at the post office this morning. :thumb:

You can never go wrong with pedals man! ;) I require dirtboxes to do what I do. But I'm strictly a Fender amp guy who runs his amps crystal clean and wants all of his gain to come from a pedal and have many different flavors of dirt rather than all of the same. Also, you can turn it off and get crystal clear. Forget channel switching or any of that amp gain BS, it's pedals for me! :D

I am not an guitar-cord-amp player and could never be that kind of guy to just plug into any amp and play. I've got to have my board of goodies because it's kind of my "security blanket"/comfort zone after all of these years. I don't use everything on my board all of the time, I just like knowing it's there if I need it, hence the security blanket reference. It makes me more confident somehow. But I'm a tribute band guy, I need to cover all sorts of recorded tones and play them note for note. And pedals allow me to do that. I always play with overdrive.

I blame The Gear Page forum for constantly fueling my pedal GAS and making it to where I can't live without them LOL. I check that place daily to see what is new in the world of overdrive pedals. I get caught up too easily in that overdrive pedal of the month sh*t and it's my own fault but I've bought and sold so many pedals it'd make your head spin. I have an obsession with dirtboxes. Particularly amp-in-a-box pedals (make any amp sound like a Marshall, etc) and also vintage styled or recreating vintage tones in a pedal.

I think you will like your new pedal, but if it doesn't work out definitely check into the MXR '78 as I previously mentioned. I have a feeling you are going to like the Plexi Drive you are getting! :D We better hear clips man! :dude:

He is just letting me check it out. I gotta send it back when I am done. Which is cool with me. I get to see what I may or may not like about these types of pedals without dealing with the GC morons.

That's cool! If you decide pedals are for you, there are lots of great sites to buy pedals from online that have a return policy. Tonefactor is one of the best IMO, as is ProGuitarShop.

The problem these days is finding time to even get around to pedal building. Seems that fall/winter are going to be my only real free times for the long term future.

It took me 3 weeks to proto ONE pedal for myself...worked up yet another booster, single knob type design. Haven't even put it in an enclosure yet. Been out of town too much recently. Hopefully I'll get a chance to paint it up and slap it on the board.

Yeah but if you like the direction of it, I'll make you the 4 knob you inquired about. Just gotta give me a few weeks to get er done. Till then, you can keep the white one until yours arrives.
