How Not to Tell the Dalai Lama a Joke

Oh... my... God....... :wow:  :hmm:

This was "cringe-worthy" as they say;

During a television interview with the Dalai Lama last week, Karl Stefanovic,
the host of a morning news show in Australia, told the revered leader of
Tibetan Buddhists, “I have a joke for you, that my son told me, that he said
you would laugh at, even though it’s about you.”

What happened next, as the joke was haltingly translated, proved Mr. Stefanovic’s son quite wrong.

Enjoy...

That's funny as hell. Killed by cultural differences, though. If he knew what was going on I think he would've appreciated it.

It's only the oldest goddamned hippie joke in existence, if you don't count the Strawberry Alarm Clock.

I heard this joke before, but it started out as Buddha walked into a pizza shop and...

Not sure what the Dalai Lama's sense of humor might be like, but suspect that a bit of clumsy translation was responsible for the monk being apparently mystified. After all, the joke is just a play on words... no slur to it. He might very well have been amused, had he been hip to the various elements of this joke.

And it wasn't like he blew up about it anyway...

Can you believe that Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King was in that band?

:applause:

.

Yeah, I remember reading an interview with him in the old GPM tab-rag where he confessed to that. Just goes to show, redemption can be had by an earnest heart, no matter how foul the sin.

At least he didn't start the interview by saying, "Hello, Dalai."

Please don't hurt me!

If he hasn't developed a sense of humor over a few reincarnations, Buddism may not be a good fit. :)

Gunga, Gunga Lunga, Gunga Gunga. :D Big hitter, the Lama...

Hint: Never use double entendre humor with someone who doesn't speak your language full-time. :D
