If you buy an original case and put the P90s back in and put the correct truss cover on it, you are up over $6500, which I believe is within the range of the current going rate for 68-69 refins (1pc neck / 1pc body). The t-burst refin that sold recently went for about $6500 I think. Mine was a little more, but it was only a top refin. With the BIN gone, it will be interesting to see what it goes for. If it hits $6500, it probably means that the original case is something that could be sold separately if you ever want to sell your GT & get the most for it.

At that price, wouldn't one with original finish and original frets and original case and a dark back be a better deal? here:

...the s/n pre-dates a deluxe...so,this is most likely a P-90 Standard and should have the long neck tenon and would be a steal,if in fact it IS a standard...

Ask him to take a pic of the inside of the neck pickup cavity with the metal plate removed from the bottom of the cavity. If the tenon has two wood screw holes in it, my money says it is a Standard that used to have P90s.

vintage 1969 Les Paul Gold top - eBay (item 300250734036 end time Aug-25-08 17:12:49 PDT)

...that's another at a very good opening price, but I'm thinking it's a refin judging by the shade of gold in the pics.If it is original finish, then it'll be interesting to see if it gets close to the BIN.

I have more pics of that guitar. But most of them are tiny like the ones in the auction. A few are larger. The back and neck are very dark. Looks like a real dark back to me. And the back of the neck has a lot of wear. you can see lots of spots where the finish / gloss has either been dinged or worn. Could be a refin. I don't remember any large patches of finish missing on the back.

I could be way off base, but my monitor is showing a copper looking gold rather than the right shade of gold I would associate with a '68 & '69.Could be from the camera flash.

Be careful; if it's a 69 Deluxe it's one thing. If it's a 68 that had P-90's, that's a whole different story. But still a refin; 1/2 off for that regardless.

...somebody did alright.Nice player.

What would be the implications of putting a blank truss cover on it & P90s & calling it a Standard? It has an ealier serial number and 1 pc everything.....I guess it would not make too much difference since it has a complete refin. Not a collector guitar anyway.

and put some 6850 pots in it...it would pass as a Standard.

which is fine as a player grade.

...however if I bought it as a Standard, even a player grade...I would not be too happy once I ran the s/n through Gibson's shipping ledger...

Agreed! But much of the 1969 production is not logged in the ledger. I was able to get scans for my 68 Custom & 68 GT. But they did not have anything for my 69 Custom or 69 GT.
