I've got one I found in a church sale. Literally 100% original, right down to the tubes. Awesome sounding amp.

LPSG: I was quoting for truth. I don't like Silverface cosmetics either (sorry SF fans! :)) but Blackface amps just have a classy look.

Went back to the shop this morning... and realized I had an old peavey solid state in the closet that I've been trying to get rid of.. My new Twin...... $90.00 and a 15 watt solid state...

Also.. I blew some dirt out of the normal input.

Works like a dream now

Any more pics of it? If you really got it for $90 You got a heck of a deal and should buy your friend out of his half because that thing is worth a lot. Spend the money to get it refurbished properly...heck, get a head cab built for it and gig the sh!t outta it. You might however want to get it checked by a tech first for a cap change and a grounded power cord...you don't want to die!

Sorry.. Didn't see this earlier.. I did buy it myself, and I can tell it's had some good owners at some point.. It's already got the grounded power cord and the tubes look brand new... the tube chart in it is still perfect

Sorry dude but the whole Silverface thing doesn't do much for me. Not saying they are bad or anything, but not for me. Cosmetic wise, I much prefer the mid 60s Blackfaces. They are more my style. As far as tone, there is something about a Blackface I prefer. I'm not a big fan of the whole CBS/Norlin era either. I'm sure you can find great gear in those times, but I'm a 50s/60s guy for gear. When it comes to music, it's all 70s but if we are talking Fender amplifiers and guitars I prefer 50s or 60s. As far as Marshalls go, I like the 80s JCM800s.

I do, however, like SF's that have been modded to Blackface specs both tonally and cosmetically. I also like Tweed amps. Just not big on any Fender amp cosmetic or tone other than 50s Tweed or mid 60s Blackface. That's just me though! ;)

That's just so ignorant it annoys me on two issues (and i feel strongly about this so couldn't give a %$#! if it offends anyone):

1. Many of the silverface / blackface amps share an identical circuit, just a delay in time with Fender changing the cosmetics, such as the panels over.

2. Don't butcher a perfectly working classic because of some pre-conceived 'knowledge' of what is best based on reading crap on the internet.

I have had many fender amps, generally Bassman in both Blackface, Silverface colors. Various circuits of AA864, AB165, whatever and find good and bad examples (or should i say different sounding examples of each).

I'm taking a look at the tubes.. all of the preamp tubes are Fender stamped sovtecks.. and the power tubes are EH 6L6's.. now for a quick question..

The board that the grill cloth is connected to is coming off.. It looks like they tried to velcro it back on.......

What's the best way to put it back on there?

My advice is to throw it away. You can send it to me and I will take care of that for you. Wouldn't want that grille and non-green material in YOUR landfill....
Seriously, that picture gave me an amp hard-on, sweet amp.

That is how the later Silverface grill cloths were installed. Just get some new velcro.

The guy that was trying to sell it to me didn't know what he had... He was like...

"I'm pretty sure it works.. Let's see"

[turns both volume knobs to 10]

Me: "Whoa... You don't wanna do that..."

My ears thanked me when I got it home and realized exactly how loud it is..

Right, I was going to do that, but I'll leap in with a 3rd issue...

I get sick of hearing this. The "good" sounding JCM800s all existed as JMP models - most of them from 1975 onwards. There must have been at least 15 models of JCM800, and at least 5 different circuits. They sound different, and saying you like JCM800s is meaningless and misguided.

Same goes for SF Twins in many ways. There were a few different circuits. Most of them sound very good, but some tw@t will always "blackface" them before they listen to them.

Wow, how nice of you. Called me a tw@t and bashed my opinion. It's my opinion. You didn't see me bashing YOU did you?!

So what, I like Blackface Fender amps and Marshall JCM800s. If you want to be so f*cking smart about it I like early 80s 2203s.... Who are you to decide what amps people should buy or not?! As far as Silverfaces, who the hell are you to tell me what to do with amps I buy with my own money. You are not God. So I'm a tw@t if I blackface a Silverface amp? WTF?! I don't like Silverface cosmetics. If it sounds good, then I'll just change the cosmetics. If it doesn't sound good I'll send it off to be modded.

Back off! This was uncalled for and disrespectful. Grow up. I speak from experience with the amps I've used in the many bands I've played in over the years as a professional guitarist. I'm quite knowledgeable on gear. I would really appreciate it if you would PLEASE STOP the insults and the unkindness. You were very rude. I have a right to my opinion. There is no reason to be a jerk. So please. If you disagree, fine, state why but to call names and make insults is childish and rude.
