Surgery Friday 08/08/08.

Doing the pre-screen stuff Tuesday morning. Doc didn't want to wait until I came back from vacation on Sept 14th after I told him of my plans to fish for Marlin this year out in the Gulf!:slap:

So I'm listening to him. He did my other knee about 15 years ago when some crackhead hit me head-on and that knee went through the dashboard! Quick recovery time of about two weeks but I'm planning/hoping to get back to the office the following Monday morning most likely on crutches. No way I can put my own paitents on hold for two weeks... besides if I don't work I don't make money.

My surgeon is cool, the last time he operated I woke up during the proceedure for only a few seconds but I could hear he had
Tom Petty "American Girl" playing in the operating room!

Hey as long as it aint "Last Dance with Maryjane" I should be good! :thumb::laugh2:

Haha, best of luck with the surgery. Sorry that happened.

You said you have patients, what do you do?

the thing I dont like about Gibson is they use a football shaped grain on the tops , in one of the top pics youll see it ,I ordered a Classic Custom & it was way to noticeable so I sent it back ,then after a month of waitin I decided to get an R-8 from him with the similar football grain(not as bad) ,seems like they always put it where your forearm rests, for what it costs they should use a better piece of wood

The "football" grain you're talking about is flat sawn (or rift sawn) maple. If you want the more parallel type grain pattern you'll be looking for a quarter sawn top. Gibson (like most guitar manufacturers) use all three types of wood, but I'd guess that quarter sawn maple is more expensive as it's more desirable.

Quite an interesting thing to research - gets to be quite interesting to figure out how the lumber was cut and matched before it became a guitar top.

Personally I think quarter sawn plain tops look a bit boring in comparison to the weird effects of flat sawn and rift sawn lumber.

Interesting stuff Liam.

I will keep this in mind since most recently I have begun weighing the options of having the Custom Shop make something Custom for me! :D

Good food for thought!:hippie:

Sorry about your knee, but I hope that beautiful new plaintop gets you through your post-surgery days OK. Just don't do what I did after my last knee surgery --- start walking around playing with the guitar strapped on your back before your Doc says its OK to put weight on your leg. Pretty sure I prolonged my recovery period by doing that. :hmm:

Thanks man.

Yeah it's hurting like a mutha!
Of course I went back into work 3 days later, on crutches, really stupid. I have no choice though, if I don't work I don't make money. I ice the knee down the minute I walk in the door for at least an hour, then off to jamming (but seated). Then it's back to ice and elevation!

I wont see the doc again until next Thursday and then I'm sure it will be 6 months of PT. I'm hoping I didn't screw it up any worse by going back into work... we'll see?
