Those of you in the know, what are the sleeper Japanese Les Paul copies? I have heard about Tokai, Greco, Burny, Edwards, and Bacchus, but I am wondering if there are equally good Japanese Les Pauls that can be found here in the States for a reasonable sum (say $500).

Haha... I doubt anyone is willing to share information on sleeper LPs, as they wouldn't remain sleepers for very long ;)
That being said, your best bet is to check places where the seller has no clue what s/he has... eg. Craigslist or local classifieds, pawnshops and suchlike.

I've heard good things about Arias but they never seem to come up for sale...

Good Cap'n . . . please research the web. The info is out there, thats how some here found out about lesser known brands. It is somewhat difficult to get a good burst with vintage attributes at the $500 price point. Very difficult actually.

Yamaha Studio Lords are in your ballpark.

Stay away from Lord Players, horrible guitars. (I jest yee, a-harrrr)

That's all I'm gonna give ya.

Good luck & happy hunting!

up your price a little and you'll have more choice.
personally i don't even bother looking at anything over $1000 but for 6,7,800 you can get something nice.Depending what you want it for I guess

Yeah I think the word is slowly trickling out on the Aria's.
Mine sold for more than I thought it would this week!

Sorry rastafred, I didn't save the link nor do I have a YJ/rinkya account to keep tabs on the auctions I see. It wasn't listed as an Aria pro though.

The K series Orville LP's and SG's tend to go between 5$00 and $700. You miight find a deal on one of those too.

so you're hunting in the "others" section? :naughty:

I'm waiting for some nice Aria Pro to come. A custom one with an ebony board, 3 pickups and a hardcase (maybe original) and an LS-800 in tobaccoburst with possible solid flame top.

No, I don't know where it was listed as I found it under the search term "Aria" but not "Aria Pro." As I'm sure you know there are a lot more crappy guitars to wade through under just "Aria"...

Aria looks like the new MIJ hype. Even chingo has a few, and not cheap...

There's a Yamaha Studio Lord on eBay for $499. Otherwise, you can order one of the Studio Lords or Lord Players (not as widely available) from Rinkya for $250ish (sometimes less). With Rinkya fees and shipping, it should bring you into the $500 price range.

Here is a Beautiful Epiphone LTD ED Custom LQ I found on Ebay for 650.
Everyone who has played it becomes a fan of Japanese Luthiers.
