Hi all ! I decided to change the stock pickups on my Epi LP Custom and want to buy Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Set ( Sh2 Jazz and Sh4 JB ). Is this change going to make my Epi sound much better? Or what else is necessary to do in order to make the most out of the guitar?

Thanks

Will you still recommend changing pots, caps, etc., even though I am pretty happy with them...?

replacing your caps and pots make a difference, one that may result in you having not to replace any pickups.

Duncan 59's, I put them into several of my Gibsons and my Orville LP Custom, definitely will be using them on the tour and next album......... I can't say enough good stuff about them.

My other current pickup pairing is the Duncan JB/Jazz.

If you are going to invest in new pickups might as well replace the guts too.

To get the full potential out of your new pickups, replacing the electronics is almost a must - especially in Epiphones.

I can build you a drop in wiring harness with pots and caps all soldered together, plus a pre-wired Switchcraft switch with braided wire.

Shifty recently got one of my harnesses, and is extremely pleased that he upgraded it. :thumb:

How do you know you couldn't be happier with something else if you don't try it? Rule number one for modding and the initiation into G.A.S.

Since no one else has asked, I will: What amp do you play through?

You beat me to it. :)

I see so many threads like this where guys wanna change out the pickups in their guitars ...... but it turns out they're playing through a little 15 watt Line 6 Spider II or something like that.

Not that I have anything against small solid state practice amps... but a great amp (like a Marshall JCM 800, Mesa Boogie, Orange, Fender tube amp, Peavey Classic 30 or 50 etc...) will get you A LOT farther than any pickup or electronic swap.

So.......... yeah.......... what kind of amp do you have EpiLPCustom?

New pickups --> Cheap amp --> Little difference in your sound. You need an amp that really brings out the nuances of tone in your guitar in order for a pickup change to be worthwhile.

I highly recommend Luke's wiring harnesses, I've got one and it's brilliant the only reason I haven't had more off of him is because everytime I get the money to get another something else comes up.
What I'd suggest is a small tube amp and a kit from Luke. That way you get a nice amp and your pickups will already sound better because of the wiring harness. :slash:
