Got another one to look at... Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul Custom Cherry Sunburst guitar - eBay (item 270579080703 end time May-17-10 11:45:03 PDT)

I think this one looks great, but I've never seen a Custom in a Cherry Sunburst color before. Just wanna make sure it's real before bidding. The listing doesn't show a pic of the back of the headstock and doesn't provide a serial number.

Thanks,

Epiphone made a Custom Plus Heritage Cherry Sunburst, not sure if they still produce them though. If you scroll to the bottom of that Ebay listing he answers a question as follows :

Q: Is this guitar a factory second?
A: Not a second. Shipped directly from Quindao, China with plush Epiphone case just like in the listing.

That should answer your question as to fake or not, Epiphone does not do factory direct shipping. I would also bet that the back of the headstock would have the "Inspected in the US" sticker, Epiphone does not ship a guitar to the US for inspection, then back to China for sale.

Epiphone Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar - Black Beauty - eBay (item 260603504239 end time May-14-10 22:03:31 PDT)
What do you think?
Is this a real one or not?
It's pretty suspicious, but the guitar looks good, and the seller has a bunch of feedback.
Thanks

Most likely fake, the giveaway is Location: Qingdao, China and the fact you can see a "Inspected in the US" sticker on the back of the headstock.

Check any listings for item location, if it's located in China, steer clear. Epiphone does not ship direct from the factory.

actually the response to the message said that the guitar would be shipped directly from the distributor, not the factory in China. I'm gonna watch this one & see where it goes. We'll see...

We just had that seller on the last page.

One has to wonder if ebay really cares? This guy is still at it:

Epiphone Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar - Black Beauty - eBay (item 260603569356 end time May-18-10 01:48:22 PDT)

I bought mine last Fall (for more than he's selling them now, and he wasn't located in China at that time!). By the time I found out mine is fake, it was way past the 45 day limit. After finally hearing back from Gibson, I contacted him directly last month, and got him to kick back some cash, so I can get the frets leveled and make it playable, etc. But, I still have too much money ($350) wrapped up in a fake, when I could be using it for other things.

Right now his auction is one giant red flag, that I doubt anyone would bite on. But, you never know:hmm:

didn't see this post... sorry. Anywho, I still don't trust that Skylook981212. There were some posts that were removed by ebay, but most remained. I also noticed that the item discriptions for a couple were worded exactly the same as Suipbox22's guitars. I'm scared for anyone who purchases stuff from these sellers.

Yeah, his listings sure look suspicious.

They made Customs in Sunburst colors, but they discontinued them.
The "Shipped directly from Quindao, China with plush Epiphone case just like in the listing." is a dead giveaway.
Epiphone doesn't sell guitars directly from the factory.

I sent this seller a couple questions and received quick replies as well. My first question was if they had a serial number or pics of the back of the headstock. The response to that was that the did not have that info as the guitar would be shipped directly from the "distributor". I asked what year the guitar was made & the repsonse to that was "it is a new 2008 guitar".

The guy lists his location as Springfield, Oregon and then says the guitars will be drop shipped from a "distributor" in China, that screams fake. All genuine Epiphones sold in the North America are shipped to Gibson, USA where they are inspected, then have the "Inspected in the USA" label applied and sent to authorized dealers/wholesalers. No genuine Epiphones are shipped direct to customers from China.

This is for 32Soundz, he wanted to know the difference between my Fake one and my real one i got lately.

The real one looks better and its just the real deal.. I have to admit that the fake one had a pretty good sound. Now i cant test it on a big ass amp but on my Roland Cube 15x it made a nice sound. Maybe on a very good Amp you can hear the real difference but here in my room I cant really tell the difference... Maybe the neck pickup sounds better on the real guitar...

I have to say the fake one wasnt that off on Sound on my Amp... But still, its just a Roland Cube 15x with an Digitech Rp50 pedal...

So the fake one and the authentic one sounded the same?

There is a little bit of Difference. But on my Amp it isnt really noticeble.. My girlfriend says its the same,, i got really good ears so i can hear a difference in especially the Neck pickup. The Bridge pickup sounds nicer but than again. I cant prove it, because i havent got a really good amp...

Im running it through an Digitech RP50 that makes the sound for me..

Maybe you can go to an Guitarstore and check your fake on a expensive AMP together with a Real Les Paul..

Well I wont ever be playing it on an expensive amp, just a 15w like you.

I am planning on buying an authentic epi my self pretty soon, I would only be using the neck pickuo really cause I dont like distortion.

I was hoping you would say that there is big difference to be honest..

The guitar looks ok, can't say the same about the seller, though.
All he's sold so far are some weird eye balls and ridiculously cheap t-shirts.

He's got another Epi Custom listed, but is showing pics of a Gibson. :hmm:

Dodgy..
