Not too far off, BOBBO... I was in GC here in Raleigh to get strings one day, and this dude came in with a nice looking PRS. I guess it was one of those "10tops" or whatever the hell ya call em... Anyways, he played it for while, checking out some amps, and when he was leaving, the check out girl had to make sure he wasn't stealing it...

Just as I was leaving, I see her open the case, and the guitar falls flat on it's face to the floor! Right in front of me! All I could do was shake my head, and walk out. I hope somebody took care of that guy...

I once picked a brand new Alpine White Custom off the wall, and the nut was so bad, that I thought it might just fall off!

Those places are horrible!

That PRS story is painful. Never let an underling or overlord open your case. Your guitar, your responsibility. Bad GC, Bad................

Well, we know that... A shocking amount of people don't! Not their fault, either!

GC and MF are owned by Bain Capital, which aslo owns Burger King.

See Bain Capital

Twenty years after its inception, Bain Capital manages $50 billion in assets, and has founded, acquired, or invested in hundreds of companies including AMC Entertainment, Brookstone, Burger King, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, Guitar Center, HCA, Sealy, The Sports Authority, Toys R Us, Unisource, and Warner Music Group

Yeah there are only 2 in Calgary. Not so popular around here. A&W and Wendy's are the big ones, next to McDiddies.

Guitar Center is like the fast food chain of instruments.

Actually looking at that list I don't spend money at any of Bain's stores. Period. Fuck Toys R Us.. It's way overpriced *I don't have kids, but I do shop for nieces and nephews, and TRU costs way more than any other toy store around here*

Dominoes Pizza is CRAP. Most label artists I actually buy are on Sony/BMG, and I don't own a Sealy mattress.

Thumbs down to all of their businesses. They are probably cheap asses which is why they always hired pimply kids to work at those places, and pay them squat, which is exactly the quality of service you get there too.

I do the same when I can. However, the GC's by me have got a lock on Gibson. When I bought my first LP last year I went to my regular shop and they didn't have a single Gibson guitar. Told me GC had an "exclusive". Luckily when I went into GC waving 3 grand around they were pretty happy to see me. I did have to go through 2 GC's and about a dozen LP's before I found one I liked though..

It sucks. I always try to shop locally, keep my money in my community, but these days it's getting pretty tough..

GC was publicly traded on the Nasdaq until recently when it was acquired by Bain Capital. I don't shop at GC nor am I trying to defend them, but now since they don't have to answer to a Board of Directors, hopefully their business/quality will improve.

They have to answer to VC's now... Which is MUCH worse than a board. The board might have actually had musicians on it... Guaranteed Venture Capitalists don't give a rats ass about music one way or the other!

This discussion is making me very uncomfortable.

I want to buy a G0 but live in Australia. And have never before bought a guitar without thouroughly inspecting and playing first.

I can have a friend go in and pick it up but whats to say they havent dropped it at some point.
