I recently took one of my amps to get it repaired; and while at the shop, I noticed a wall full of capacitors. I asked him if he had any caps that were PIO, and he showed me the Jensens, and said they would be about $15 a piece! Then he showed me these bad boys: Mojotone Vitamin T .022uf/600v.

My question is simple: Will these work in my guitars? I have an Epi SG, and an Agile 3000(LP Copy).

I'm not the expert, but am an experimenter like you. I hope Jonesy, one of our resident experts will chime in here. I do know that the fact that they are PIO caps rated at .022 uF would make them correct for your application. However, I believe the 600 V rating may be a little high for your use in a passive circuit of the guitar, based on something I recall Jonesy posting at one time. I believe he said he didn't like to use caps rqted at more than 400V on guitar tone controls.

While many players use .022 uF rated PIO caps on both their bridge and neck pup tone controls on LPs, some use them rated at .015 on the bridge pup tone control. The .015s wouldn't go as mellow as the .022s, but it is the individual's choice.

From my experience on one guitar (not an LP) I found change to PIO caps to be a real help in the tone department, and at a low cost. I know the brand of PIO caps you show is well thought of, and hope that some of our experts chime in here to give you more specific info.

Mojotone Vitamin T (Tin Foil Polyester Film in Oil) do sound good although not quite as smooth as PIOs.

I prefer PIOs for most applications but still those Ts sound good and with their own character.

sure they will. nice caps.

but treble bleed would be a different value entirely *.001uF*
so you can't do that.

I get mallorys for that or spragues..but even a ceramic chip will be ok for a treble bleed.
you connect lug 1 to the tb cap.. then tb cap to middle lug.

You can also add a 130K resistor to that, same connect points.

those will make DYNAMITE TONE CAPS and I'd use them for that.

I had doubts about the volts rating too, but no matter.. use 'em. I generally get 200V caps for guitar.. but I've used higher and it's not a problem at all.
use your ears first, I say!
No dis to jonesy.. he knows rules are general a lot in guitar and to guitarists.

but I wouldn't pause a bit... I'd have those in any guitar with two tones and humbucks and be very happy to have them.

go to rat shack for treble bleed!

Thanks! I guess the question now is how do I wire them for tone?

Yeah those are Vitamin Q clones of some sorts but not paper in oil from what I hear.

You would wire them just like any other Tone caps. Treble bleeds are an entirely different thing and you would not use .022's for bleed kits anyways. (.001-.002uf)

Check the wiring library here at MLPF for 50's or modern wiring diagrams or I can send you one.

That would be great if you could send me one:) I read the wiring thread, and I think with a diagram and a simple explanation I should be able to solder it just fine.

This would go on tone pot.. right?

Would lug 1 on modern wiring be the empty (in case of the tone pot) or the ground?

jonesy..? :)

Actually it isn't a retail store-it was the actual shop where they build all the amps. Their amps are fantastic! Replicas of Fender Amps, vintage pedals, here you go:

Clark Amplification Home

The amp tech/builder was really friendly. I'd buy one of these if I had the money for sure! Point to point wiring, great components, and made right here in the USA:)
