i posted a thread earlier about the g&l rampage which has a kahler bridge. i like these, i can do all kinds of weird stuff with these things, especially with fuzz and octave pedals. ive never gotten to truly use a floyd rose for all it was worth. the kahler i could use to extremes and pretty much abuse it lol. it stayed in tune pretty well too lol! so, anyone play both and have an opinion?

My preference goes to Kahler; I like the look of it better than the Floyd.

these trems are really neat... i never really used one to extremes the way i did the other night. you can do all kinds of neat things with those setups!

Kahler any day of the week. Floyds are a pain in the ass, never cared for the feel of them, either. Kahlers are much smoother. I like them a lot better for Bigsby-like warbles as well as dive-bombs (although to tell the truth I don't dive bomb much!!). Floyds seem way to all or nothing to me.

Plus you can rest your damned hand on a Kahler. I HATE not being able to rest my hand, and I can't with a floyd.

I've been gassing for one of those new Rampages BAD!!!

I've never tried a Kahler before. (What can I say? I'm a southpaw, for Pete's sake!!) I'll have to bear that in mind if I ever run into a lefty with a LH Kahler....

Thanks! :thumb:

(if for any other reason, I'd block the sucker in the back and I'd probably have a guitar that wouldn't go out of tune short of me dropping it off the roof of a 2nd story building...)

If I remember right, they used to be available for lefties pretty easily. Just a left handed bar and an extra hole tapped for the bar on the left side, but I don't remember for sure, it was 20 years ago:laugh2:

Oh, I'm sure you can get 'em...I guess for me though...I don't really use a tremolo bar anyway...so if I got into something like that....eh, I'd probably just fix it to the guitar. (And at that point...hell...might as well go with a TOM setup or a Wilkinson that's blocked off in the back.)

The only Floyd I was able to comfortably play on (palm-mute) was a Jackson with the fine tuners placed on the end. I had a friend with a Charvel Mod. 6 that had one.

I had a Mod. 4 with a Kahler that I liked a lot. Even got used to changing the strings & all the quirks of it, had a better range than the average Floyd, too.

If you want parts, or to upgrade. The site wammyworld has all that. Someone else posted about it here & it's a really good site.

Yeah, truth be told I don't really use it much, just a little warble here and there. All of mine are 80's models. A couple of my guitars came to me with them, so that's why I've got them. I put the other on my old Warmoth on a whim. Actually, the oldest one that was on my Deluxe has been replaced with a Nashville and stopbar.

The newer ones have a set screw on them so you can block it off if you want.

Anyhow, for the sake of Blling's question, I'd take a Kahler over a Floyd any time, but I too prefer hardtail. Tele 3 saddle is becoming a favorite as well.

Well,I did say I was bias...
I started with Floyds 20 some odd years ago.true you cant be heavy handed and play one ,but that also has its advantages....hit a harmonic, and send it into orbit......:dude:

Yeah, they have an ebay store too, sometimes they have really great deals there. I got a newer Aluminum 2300 baseplate to convert my 2200 to a 2300 for something like 25 bucks. That was a lucky one, tho.

Oh, no argument, but I never could get used to them. The very first decent guitar I had was that old Deluxe with the Kahler, so I'm biased on the other end :laugh2:!!

I just got my first Floyded guitar. It is not as smooth as I would have liked but I am getting uses to it and making cool sounds. I would like to try a Kahler because I read that it is smoother.

I love the Floyd Rose on my Ibanez. It lets me mimick the sound whirr effects in Beyonce's song.
