hey guys, wow i'm amazed at how many responses i got in one day! maybe there is something to this whole 'forum' craze... it's been really helpful. well, i checked shipping prices for something of this size and weight to the USA and unfortunately they're astronomical. something around 150USD for 5 working days... i dont know if its worth it. so i looked around and found a pretty respectable guitar fixer who's also a friend, and he gave me a pretty good price, about 70USD for a weeks' worth of work. he said he's seen this kind of thing before and that he can fix it with some glue and rosewood dust, as one of you said earlier. i'll post pics when its done, and now i know where to go if i need help with anything guitar related! thanks again guys, you were a huge help to me.

It looks like somebody took a pair of wire cutters to the binding.

Well $70 for a weeks worth of work is pretty cheap and since it would take about 15 minutes to do this job professionally I would get him to clean my house, office, apartment, maybe a refret or three and he would still have mucho time left out of a lazy 35 hour week! Bargain... a true friend! :dude:

Hi guys,

i just opened my guitar case today and when i picked up my les paul i found that my fretboard and the bottom part of my neck had chipped! this is definitely not something i would have missed while using it, and i dont know how it happened. while i would like to find out what exactly happened, it looks like someone or something knocked against it with a sharp object. is this damage reparable, and is it worth sending to the gibson repair guys? i have emailed them but with no reply. also, i am living in singapore, although my brother lives in new york but it would be quite troublesome to send it all the way over there, not to mention incurring astronomical costs due to shipping and the actual repair itself. have any of you had previous experience with going to a local luthier or guitar workshop and getting your les pauls fixed this way? i really hope you guys can help me out, i've never used this forum before but i think its a great resource for questions like this.
thanks a lot. i hope the picture quality is ok, i used my cellphone camera.

Easy sand a piece of rosewood with fine grit paper, 220 or 320, fill in gauge with drops of thinnest super glue, add the rosewood dust, repeat till slightly over, scrape
and sand flush.

Same deal for the binding but you melt a piece of binding in acetone, it takes some time, but when it turns to goo spread over the gauge. I've found that a small amount of the thinnest superglue can be mixed into the formula for a harder more durable result.

I've got some spare scrapes of both rosewood and binding if you send me message I'll send you some.
