There is a serialnumber on 1 of the pictures. That is way i said the stock screamed fake.
The serial is starting with EE in a different font as the numbers. Epi used EE (in same font) till mid '08.

Uhm, it starts with LU.

i checked up that the letter in front of the numbers represents where the guitar was made, L = Saein and is korean and U = Unsung korean but i dont think there should be 2 letters behind each other, the owner also stated the guitar was from china so we got a fake here along with probably most of his other stuff

Two letters behind each other is not a problem.
But the LU combination is special. Some kind of mystery land ;)

My bad, I blame my LCD screen

Yeah the seller made it pretty hard to see and he also put the pictures on angles to cover up defects which are easy to pick out when the guitar is alingned

Guys,

Is that true that Epiphone has ceased the production in Korea and now only makes guitars in China? If so - when did it happen? I am asking because one shop in the UK is saying that they have still Korean Epis in stock (sunbursts not Ebony ones).

Cheers,
Arek

Looking at guitars at a pawn shop the other day, found an Epiphone Custom that had its inlays off-center (they were about 1-1.5mm to the bass side of the neck). They looked like the slots had be cut centered, but the actual inlays were possibly not wide enough to fill the whole slot--so a dark filler was used to close the gap.

Just made me curious... anyone seen that on a legit Epiphone? I'll have to stop by the pawn shop again and see if they'll let me take a couple photos to better illustrate it.

I'm fairly sure that's correct. If I'm not mistaken they halted Korean production early this decade; perhaps about 2002.

Yes, it is a fact. To take it a step further, its my sole belief that the fakes are coming from production plants that were stripped of their license to make Epis by Gibson, and do it on their own. It would explain why the fakes have Korean traits most of the time.

Yeah, that would explain a lot of things.
I think that Unsung, Korea is still making a few Epis, though.

that might also explain why many of the fakes come with epiphone parts or at least stamped to make them look like epiphone parts like the bridge and pickups.

I suggest you stop posting BS like that before you get flamed. Yes there are fakes, yes they are crap, don't try to justify them or pretend they don't exist.
