Hey all, new guy to this forum. I was thinking about being one of those idiots that buys a guitar off of ebay, hard to pass up a good deal. Anyway just thought I'd see if anyone had an opinion on the authenticity on either of these, they are both older and seem good to go to me. Real or fake? Thanks.

Epiphone (Gibson) Les Paul - eBay (item 260491928717 end time Oct-22-09 14:09:34 PDT)

Epiphone Les Paul Standard guitar no reserve!!! - eBay (item 250515904198 end time Oct-24-09 16:59:57 PDT)

Welcome to MLP!

They both look fine to me.

Yeah, I dunno. Wrote the seller, asking to remove the pic from the listing and that's the answer I got.

Should I make a big fuzz about it?

I've had pictures of my car stolen a few times - one time someone was trying to sell my actual car on ebay - all my pictures, plates and all with the location listed in a completely different area in the US. Another time someone was trying to sell framed pictures of my car and the latest time someone used one of my pictures to sell a drop spring kit.

Contact ebay and they should take care of it - it's a bit of a pain, but that kind of stuff really annoys me on principle.

It's fake, stay away.
Send the same pictures to service at gibson dot com and get their official statement.

Yes, I am positive it is a fake. Ask Gibson for a statement and hand it over to eBay or wherever you bought it to help you get the refund.

The guitar is 100% from the original epiphone product line. It is from my contact in Gibson who is a senior manager. But there are several points need your attention.
1.serial number was registered when manufactured and can be tracked at The Guitar Dater Project - Epiphone Serial Number Decoder BUT not with Gibson official authorized dealer. So it won't be accepted by authorized dealer for warranty purpose(they only issue warranty for guitars sold by themselves)
2.it was inspected by my contact in Gibson not authorized dealer appointed inspectors.

Hope these are OK with you because all parts are 100% genuine.

you can tell from the general building quality, paintwork and sound quality.

This was his response, He says it's ok to return the item so, what should I do?

When you contact Gibson, make sure you send the Serial Number. They can track down the number up to the guitar color, model, etc. They will let you know if that serial number belongs to the guitar it's shown in the picture down to the color, etc.

Don't trust this dude, trust Gibson Customer Service. Don't do anything with the guitar 'til you hear from them. Get in contact with the customer service from the place where you bought it, ask them about the refund and the procedure. You don't have to talk to the seller at this point until you have everything figured out.

The Guitar Dater Project is a good site but it doesn't provide official feedback about a serial number. It interprets it rather than verify it. You can create a serial number, type it there, and it's gonna be interpreted as it were "real".

Also, this guitar you showed us has basic design flaws present in fake guitars. Even if this guy told you it is original, the pictures tell another story.

Return it??? DON'T return it, we had one just last week that Gibson/Amazon said don't send it back and they got a full refund. It's like catching a car thief then handing them the keys to your car. Contact Gibson and the website you bought it from, wait for their instruction before you do anything.

Exactly. And that happens to be me. I got full refund and I still have the fake with me. But that's Amazon, I don't know about eBay.

UPDATE:

Guys, I have bought a new Black Beauty and the serial that comes with it is most strange to me. Starts with 09041XXXXXX and has no EE.

Im a little confused, although it looks like the real deal. I'm a bit disappointed because the product came with a scratch and a loose screw. I'll post a few pictures tomorrow so that you can share your feelings about it. And yes, I'm returning it.

The serial is fine. They dont put a plant identifier in the serial anymore, since 6/08. DOnt know what may change in the future, but thats where it stands as of now.

I see. Then everything is fine apart from the fact that the guitar had some glitches and I will return it. :S
