If you're going to get a '57 classic for the neck, you might as well get a '57 classic plus for the bridge...and have a balanced set.

I'm of a mixed mind on those bridge pups. I hated them in my Custom, tolerated 'em in my Standard Plus but eventually got rid of them. They do the job, but to be honest there's far better pickups out there that offer more dynamic range and superior clarity.

So....I guess what I'm tryin' to say is...nah, I don't have a very high opinion of that pickup.

The HOTCH(G) and 57CH(G) stock pups that came in my Epi LPC were OK but sounded dark so I replaced them with DiMarzios. They sound brighter and better in this:

Mmmmm...what they look like when the gold cover is removed.
Hence those pretty gold screws!:dude:
That classic 'new' Gibson pickup thing they did last year.
The Uncovered '57 Classic with the gold screws. Cost around $150 each.
Clever Indeed

Whether you'll like them is personal preference. But yes you should always adjust any pickup's height to find the sweet spot Thats the only way to judge a pup before deciding to ditch them.

that and having a good amp, you can change pickups all you want but if you are playing through a cheesy toy amp then all pickups are going to sound like crap.

with the Epis I have found that fixing the rat nest wiring harness goes a long way and some time spent adjusting them they are suprisingly decent pickups.

Pickups are personal taste items so it's really hard for someone to give an accurate opinion as to what you should do.

I personally love the Duncan 59's, some people do not............

I am also playing through a 100 watt Marshall stack and occasionally an Egnater Rebel 20 on top of a 4x12 as well. My guitars sound great through them, now if I take it an plug into a different setup it completely changes the character.

The guy I bought this Epi 335 Dot from has an unopened Gibson '57 bridge pup for sale. I wasn't interested as any pickups I change out will go into my new Firebird V and they won't be full size humbuckers.

He was asking $100 for it, but I don't know what they sell for normally. Let me know if your interested and I'll put you in touch with him. He may have listed it on Craigslist but not sure.

EDIT: LMAO! I didn't realize this was such an old thread. I was searching the pups in my new Dot described below and found this thread. The information above might be helpful to someone though.

I just recently changed my pups on my epi lp standard that had a hotch g to a burstbucker 3. To be honest i like the hotch but lacks clairity. I was pretty surprised that the bb3 seemed to have lower output than the hotch and sounded thinner? Or maybe because it was brighter. But overall the tone is way much better and clearer... my ears are probably just bot used to the brightness yet..

Any thoughts on which is hotter? The bb3 or the hotch g?
