2016 Gibson Les Paul Studio - Ash - Limited Edition. The 9 year old guitar is in virtually factory new, flawless, pristine condition. Previous owner must have stored it in a presentation case.

With Guitar Center's 10% off Used Gear this weekend, price came to $1080 with brown Gibson hard shell case.

I love natural finishes on guitars, so this rare object kind of had to come home with me. 8 lbs 12 oz. Slightly weighty, but not too much so.

Pickups are 498T 490R, tone is characteristically Les Paul, perhaps very slightly brighter - which is what I would want.

The neck looks to be maple. A bit too light to be mahogany?

Very small grouping family photo

They did a regular production Studio Ash from 2006 to 2011. Those had mahogany necks, but the 2016 limited run was maple.

The grain structure on yours is definitely quartersawn maple.

The mahogany neck versions are pretty unmistakable. From Google:

Cool guitar! You gonna leave it as is, or mod it a bit with different dials etc? Good that it's undrilled for the guard, too.

I have a pair of Wolfetone Dr. Vintage uncovered cream bobbin humbuckers that need a home and I think they would be great in this guitar. I will need to build a new wiring harness, which I enjoy doing, as this guitar has a Gibson circuit board for electronics. I have another set of Wolfetones in one of my other Les Pauls... the Burgundy LP Modern shown in my photo above ^^^.

BTW, the Epiphone LP Modern is truly a superb Les Paul. I like it every bit as much as any of the Gibson Les Pauls I have owned over the years.

Another Les Paul that I have at present is another Epi Les Paul Modern, Pelham blue. I have installed Firebird pickups, a new CTS wiring harness, Switchcraft toggle switch and output jack in this Les Paul. The ebony boards, locking Grover tuners, and build quality of these Moderns are really great.

I absolutely love the look, that would be the only way I could swap my P90s

I once owned the first version of the swamp ash Les Paul, with mahogany neck and ebony fretboard. Was by far the fastest, most growling and aggressive Les Paul I ever had! Nice guitar you got there…
Why did you get fid of?

I always thought different wood species on Les Pauls are fantastic.

I had @LtDave32 build me a “The Paul” replica using Korina (African Limba),.. it turned out beautiful.

And Dave made this Spanish Cedar Junior as well,.. super light tone monster.

That’s quite a score!
I blew it big time when passing on one at George’s Music. Light weight, loud & resonant, screamed & roared through an amp. Played incredible, oh man….Walked out like some chump with nothing, and been keeping my eyes open, for one like that ever since.

Is the Cedar one has a less sustain on a higher frets?
I have Siberian Cedar DC Special, and, as a luthuer said, the Cedar wood gives less sustain than mahogany...

It may,.. but as you can see, my Junior was orientated as a rhythm guitar. The P 90 in the neck position.

Nevertheless,.. this guitar has chime like attributes,.. very clear,.. and yes, plenty of sustain.
